Museum Village is a living history museum preserving a vast collection of eclectic, 19th century artifacts for educational purposes. Using these artifacts and reproductions, we provide hands-on experiences and exhibits illustrating the transition from a rural to an industrial culture and economy in America, provoking thought and discussion about history. Exhibits include blacksmith shop, weaving, farm life, candle shop, firehouse, school house, log cabin, energy and the environment and a complete mastodon skeleton (only 1 of 3 in the entire world!). Special events include a Gem & Mineral Show, Summer Tours, Ghost Tours, a Civil War re-enactment (Labor Day Weekend), No Scare Halloween, Thanksgiving Tasting & Christmas In The Village. A staple of Orange County and the Mid-Hudson Museum Village takes you back to the 19th century. Historical buildings, craftsman, and reenactors provide a wonderful learning experience to see how life was before electricity.

This living history museum offer visitors a relaxed day of strolling in an out of 19th century shops and buildings depicting life in Orange County in the late 1800's. There are lots if interesting artifacts to see that were collected by founder Roscoe Smith, who also founded Orange and Rockland Utilities. Bring the kiddies, feed the chickens, make a candle... The first time I think it would be best to see an informational tour, you can check out your interests afterward. Check for special events. The Civil War reenactment in September is great! Kids love making and taking candles. My granddaughter thought the chickens were very amusing.

I love special events here. Fun, a nice day out. I've been to a commemoration of WWI (complete with an actual working wax/celluloid cylinder phonograph) as well as Carriage Day with demonstrations of horse drawn wagons, carts, and carriages. Labor Day is a Civil War re-enactment. Besides those demonstrations, many of the buildings are open for viewing.

I recently went to Museum Village to enjoy the Cival War demonstrations that day. There were Union Troops marching, encampments and ladies dressed in the stunning attire of the day. I will visit again for other events.

Museum Village is definitely not what it used to be. I used to come here with my family, maybe about 5-6 years ago, and it was excellent. However, Museum Village has lost much of it's charm and glamour since I was there last. Of course, there's not many negative qualities about the museum, I just wish that it was as... More
