My husband wasn't impressed with the $10 entry fee for vehicles to Prospect Mountain, and joked that he'd better see wildlife including a unicorn for that price :-D However, we were pleasantly surprised with the lookout points along the way, and we understood the fee when we got to the top and realized there is a constant shuttle bus to... Hiking up is not difficult but not easy either. Probably not a good idea for little kids. The hike is easy to follow as it follows an old cable pulled train bed. Very straight and fairly steep. The view at the top is absolutely amazing. The claim is that you can see 100 miles and I wouldn't dispute that. For... More

We really enjoy hiking but we didn't want to try the trail from the bottom. We found that right at the first parking lot is a low- moderate trail that has a beautiful view from a small outcrop of rocks. It was a great place to rest and enjoy nature without the difficult climb that might have been too hard... More

From an outdoor activity standpoint, nothing can beat this one. For $8 per car, you and your family can enjoy the beautiful views of Prospect Mountain. There are three stops where you can have some great shots but it is so worth it to take the shuttle and go all the way to the top of the mountain... You can... More

This was tough, real tough. Incline the entire way. I almost cried twice but then I saw some old people coming down so I felt like if they could do it so could I. They had water up top so that helped. Great views and worth it but be prepared to hate yourself while going up. Good luck!

A moderately challenging hike at times but only takes about an hour and a half to hike to the summit and 45 minutes to hike down. Started at the trail head on Smith street which takes you over I87 on a footbridge before the trail starts to head up the mountain. Red trail markers mark the trail every 50 feet... More

Once in lake George it's really only less than a 5 mile drive to the top. So if you're just driving it's probably less than an hour trip. The three turnouts are very close together. The best views are from the third turnout. Great panorama. We weren't dressed for hiking (flip flops) so we took the free shuttle to the... More

There are 3 scenic overlooks #1 not so good #2 the best view of the lake. #3 lake and surrounding mountains. The summit did not have a very good view because of the trees. You can ride a bus to the summit or you can walk about 5.min. We rode the bus up an walked down. Nice diner there. !0.00... More

The hike takes only about 3 hours, but is certainly challenging at times. Shoes with good grip made all the difference because a lot of the trail is open rock. It's a lot of fun, but I wouldn't recommend taking small children up. The trail is marked relatively well, but if you don't pay good attention you'll end up on... More
