Climbing Mt. Marcy is definitely an all day hike.. My husband and I started the ascent on the Von Hoevenberg trail, it was quite beautiful all the way up but for our first time mountain hiking it was quite challenging. We left at 8:30am made it a mile from the summit at 2:30pm and had to turn around to make... More

Summary of Review: This review ended up being surprisingly long, so I decided to make a summary here. I did the hike to Mt. Marcy’s peak using the Van Hoevenberg trail and it took me 4.5 hours to reach the peak. The hike was VERY rocky and takes quite a bit of stamina/endurance to go up and down. There weren’t... More

It's a long hike but not really too difficult with the exception of the 45 minutes prior to the summit. The view from the summit is oh-so-worth it. In fact, it is easy to get lost in the view and lose track of time! If the parking lot at the Adirondack Loj is full the trailhead can be accessed via... More

Honestly, I'm a beginner hiker, but I am always up to a challenge. Did Mt. Marcy on only my second time hiking. I missed the top by 200ft because I didn't have the stamina to complete it, but I highly recommend it. Don't do this hike if don't have the stamina for up to 10 hours (going up and down),... More

It was a long hike! Started at 9:11 am from Garden and getting back there at 8:30pm! So, yes! We missed the shuttle to the Adirondack Lodge! Walk all the way back to the road (about 3-4km) luckily a guy gave us a ride up. There is no service neither taxi there. Hike took us 11hrs + 45min of resting... More

We hiked the Phelps trail up and the Hopkins trail back to the Garden Parking lot. The trail was beautiful but slow going due to lots of rock and root hopping. The Van Hoevenberg trail is more traveled. The view from the top on a clear day is worth the effort.

although we did not race to the top, this hike is a continuous gradual elevation gainer with some steeper areas before the top. overall i feel it was a great hike that offers everything one would want in a hike; challenge climbs, gradual inclines, and a great view from the top. don't forget to bring a pair of binoculars to... We generally hike in the hills of PA and were super excited to try our first high peak. This trail is definitely an all day hike. Bring lots of water or a water filter plus whatever you like to eat when your burning calories because you will sweat and will need the energy. If you plan to do this as... More

We loved this hike. It was varied, beautiful, and exhausting! The trail is very well maintained, the route is well marked and the views at the summit are amazing if you are lucky enough to hike on a sunny clear day. At a round trip distance of almost 15 miles, you need to be prepared for this hike as there... More
