Who knew all these gems were right in New York State? What a great time we had visiting the beautiful waterfalls! The falls were gushing from a recent heavy rain, so we really got to see Mother Nature at her best!

We stopped in Ithaca during a Road trip to Niagara Falls. The George Trail is simple and takes about thirty minutes, it contains stairs. The view is amazing even if there is no so much water in the falls (like in October 2017).

Easy drive, easy parking, easy access to the falls. Not sure parking is free in "season", but in late Oct it was free.

My family and I didn't have to pay for parking; if you pay to get into one state park that receipt is good for other parks for that day. The falls weren't too busy, and flowing brilliantly after the recent rainfall. The hike is about...More

We hit the jackpot on this visit. The falls were really flowing and there were very few visitors. It is right off Rt. 13, and can be seen from there but drive in and do some hiking. We didn't have time to hike the entire...More

We love this spot and have returned many times. The park is big, trails are well maintained, and the water is amazing in the rainy season.

Watkins Glen was on our list but was closed at the time for trail renovation so can't say. Buttermilk was beautiful but I've been told the water flow is much less later in the summer.

I wouldn't recommend hiking the Buttermilk Trail for a 5 year old. The steps that run along the falls at the lower Buttermilk are steep, and there is no railing. There are other parks close by where a 5 year old can hike... More

If they are reasonably fit you can park at the lower level and hike to the upper, then go around the lake and back. With stops and not pushing it it'll be a good two hours. Bathrooms and water are at the mid point.
