A visit to Sunnyside is an enchanted adventure in a romantic landscape and a much-loved riverside home that has been charming visitors for generations.Hear about Washington Irving's storied past and how he came to be America's first internationally famous author, best remembered now for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and other short stories. His characters, from Brom Bones and Ichabod Crane to the mysterious Headless Horseman and the comic Rip Van Winkle, are icons in American culture. Even Johnny Depp has added to their global renown.A gently curved path leads to gorgeous views of the Hudson River and reveals the allure of Sunnyside's unique design, its intimate setting, its bucolic grounds, and its association with a beloved man of letters.

Beautiful little estate on the Hudson. In the past, I attended the candlelight tours during the Christmas season, but the Historic Hudson Valley no longer offers this program at any of their sites and I am very disappointed.

Having lived in Irvington for over 10 years we finally made the trip inside the actually home. The grounds are beautiful and the home, while small, is very charming. It was great to experience the stories and get a glimpse into Irving's home at Sunnyside. The tickets are worth the admission, especially if you get the reduced rate as members... More

I don't understand the fact that Museums close their doors on day when students & their parents have a day off & can come W/0 hindered school or work schedules. Being from the South, Museums are open every day except Christmas, Thanksgiving, & Easter Sunday!

Was closed to the general public the day I called. ( my own fault ). However looking around the general area and the view across the Hudson I am sure that it would be well worth the visit for anyone interested in Washington Irving. Will call again.

This is Mr. Irving original house. Some of furnishings are original to the house, all are original period pieces. The docents did a great job of explaining the importance of Mr. Irving to literature and to the acceptance of America in the eyes of the Europeans.

We had the opportunity to visit Washington Irving's Sunnyside House in Irvington, NY a few weeks ago on a beautiful sunny day in October. The setting was just perfect. Upon arriving and looking over the view from the parking lot, it puts one right in the spirit of the time. A short walk down the lane took us to the... More

Sunnyside is awesome and a fantastic place to visit, learn and enjoy. The folks there are just the best, they provide all the info you need and want to know about Sunnyside and Washington Irving Himself. Try not to miss this one if you are in the area.

When you tour Sunnyside, you get a glimpse into one of America's famous authors. The property was purchased by Irving in 1835, and is a stone cottage with gables and other romantic architectural enhancements that fit the romantic flavor of that period. The gift shop is lovely with Washington Irving's books and souvenirs for sale. The grounds are beautiful, and... More

We love Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown and decided on this trip to take a tour of Sunnyside. It was just okay. We bought tickets when we arrived and they were $14 each. There was a woman outside of the house giving a history of Washington Irving's life and about the actual house. We were then allowed to go inside and stand in... More
