A visit to Sunnyside is an enchanted adventure in a romantic landscape and a much-loved riverside home that has been charming visitors for generations.Hear about Washington Irving's storied past and how he came to be America's first internationally famous author, best remembered now for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and other short stories. His characters, from Brom Bones and Ichabod Crane to the mysterious Headless Horseman and the comic Rip Van Winkle, are icons in American culture. Even Johnny Depp has added to their global renown.A gently curved path leads to gorgeous views of the Hudson River and reveals the allure of Sunnyside's unique design, its intimate setting, its bucolic grounds, and its association with a beloved man of letters.

We learned a lot about Washington Irving and his times. He was the first American to really make a living by writing, and his home is delightful. At least, it was before the iron horse came through his front yard, ruining his enjoyment of the...More

This place is great to visit for Washington Irving fans or literary fans in general. I learned Irving was the first real American celebrity and spent extensive time abroad, eventually writing his masterpieces and many other works here. The property is very serene (minus the...More

We have lived here in Westchester for nearly 10 years now and never visited this museum. We had a guest in town and looked for something local and easy to do (i.e. not too time consuming or expensive). And this place satisfied all of that...More

Tour guide did a great job telling the history of Washington Irving and the house he built for himself, Sunnyside. Beyond knowing Irving as the author of "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle", we had not realized that he was a prolific author...More
