Experience a taste of life on a 19th-century estate when you visit this National Historic Landmark. Once a working farm, the house and surrounding grounds are now open seasonally for guided tours. Built in 1839, the elegant Greek Revival house was the center of a busy and productive farm by mid-century. Much of the tour focuses on the Swan family, in residence from 1850 to 1890. Through family letters, photographs, and diaries, explore the family's joys and sorrows and their interactions with neighbors and the many workers required to keep the large house and farm in working order. Trained as a merchant, discover how Robert Swan combined business methods of organization with scientific innovations like drain tile to make his farm more productive and profitable. See twenty rooms restored and furnished in the Empire style, popular from the 1820s to 1850s. Enjoy the magnificent view of Seneca Lake from the front porch and the vista of nearby farmlands.Rose Hill Mansion Gift Shop features a selection of locally produced food products, historically themed gifts and hand crafted items. Be sure to visit the tasting room Billsboro Winery operates on site.Open May 1 to October 31. Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm; Sunday, 1-5pm. Closed Mondays.

Fabulous restoration completed in 1966. There are pieces from two of the original owners. The community came together and donated or loaned other pieces to complete the collection. The ~ 1 hour tours are guided by very knowledgeable docents. After the tour you are free...More

We really enjoyed our tour here on June 24th. the trio guide gave a wonderfully informative tour and made several suggestions for other things to do in the area. The house was interesting, the history fascinating and the views from the lake were great.

Owned and maintained by the Geneva Historical Society, this magnificent building is furnished with period pieces. Well-versed docents share the home's history, from it's golden era, through years of neglect and on to its resurrection of today! It's setting is idyllic, over looking the largest...More

Nice little gift shop before you go out on a tour. Didn't realize it was a longer tour than we wanted but the nice lady took us on a shorter because we couldn't stay for the long one. Very informative, and very interesting, looking at...More

Since we were in the neighborhood, we took the opportunity to visit the mansion. The 1-hour guided tour gave us a glimpse of the lifestyle and furnishings of the 19th century period. The tour was informative and educational and worth the time.

Although we did not explore inside the mansion, just missed the tour, we did explore the grounds. Lovely spot and beautiful views. Peeked through the windows. Looks like a return visit may be in order.

Had a wonderful tasting experience and relaxed on the outdoor patio. Had engaging conversation with outdoor bartender and wished we'd arrived sooner in the season since by our visit they discontinued dockside service. The mansion also has B&B rooms for rent.More

I think you have us confused with some place else. While Billsboro Winery's Tasting Room at our site has a small outdoor seating area they do not have an outdoor bar nor do we have publicly accessible lakeside property, much less a dock. The mansion...More

Given that I have toured so many first-rate mansions and manors all over the U.S., I found Rose Hill to be a little bit underwhelming. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I visited on a day when there were no other tourists, so I got...More

We are glad that you enjoyed your tour and your tour guide's presentation. Do keep in mind that this is the house of a well-off, well-connected, but essentially rural and small-town family. While they had the pedigree, they did not have the wealth of the...More

Besides the tour, the grounds are somewhat limited. It still is worth it. They also give you coupons for free wine tasting on the premises.
