Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I Love, Love, Love this place! If you love Revolutionary War History, you have to visit here! There was a Battle on the Grounds, and wonderful artifacts of different Forts that were attacked in the Mohawk Valley, which unfortunately lots of people don't realize! The amount of information that is available to anyone who is interested in, is at your disposal! There are books, many books about history and the area!
The gal that works there, Christine, is very knowledgeable about the many things that are in the Museum, and welcomes any questions! We enjoyed her showing us so many things and explaining where they came from, etc. This such a small town, with a Huge amount of history to explore! If you Love History and have read anything about the Mohawk Valley and are in the area, Please make sure to stop in and visit! I am sure you will be Happy you did!

The people who work here are lovely. Very friendly and helpful. The museum has two floors. Not a huge place but if you are really there to learn something you will. Some artifacts are from the grounds the museum is on. Small gift shop, mostly books. Three people in period costumes which is always fun. I would not recommend for little kids.

I was touring upstate New York on a history trip a few years ago. I randomly stopped by, and was given a wonderful tour of the museum and fort. They weren't even technically open for the for the season yet, but they still showed me around. The vista of the Mohawk Valley is a nice perk. I'm sorry I forgot to review this earlier! Please check out their museum!

My husband and I visited this museum, in early June. It is located in a lovely stone house, on a scenic hilltop, outside of the town proper. We were quite surprised at the number of artifacts, that were well displayed in the main house. The museum addition included an overview of the many battles fought here, during the American Revolution. The property also has an extensive park area, accessible by car, or on foot. This area is pet- friendly, as well. We plan on visiting again, in the near future, and bringing our dog. All in all, this is a unique treasure in Montgomery County.

Visiting relatives in nearby Ilion so we decided make a visit here. We took Hiway 5 on the north side of the Mohawk down from Ilion - a very nice scenic drive (remember to stop and visit the Palatine Church on Hiway 5) - crossing back over the river at Ft Plain. Unfortunately for us the museum was closed that day. The view over the river is nice and I'm sure we will attempt to return again.

We visited Fort Plain Museum in order to participate in an all-day historical site bus tour of 8 different places. A lot of preparation had gone into the tour as well as the conference. Fort Plain has a lot of items on display and knowledgeable staff to talk about them. The countryside was very pretty and the tour guide knew the area. For $35 I certainly got my money's worth!

This place sets a standard for a small museum becoming an important resource for information on the revolutionary war along the Mohawk River. Great little gift shop and displays. If you get there when they have a special program you might be able to talk to reenactors who are oh so knowledgeable and passionate in what they call 'living history".

The fort plain museum is a great place to learn about fort plains role during the revolution war. You can also learn some on the Erie Canal. The museum offers many programs, in the fall they have a fall lecture series, in the spring they offer a three day conference. The final event for the year will be a Christmas open house. Overall a great place to see.
