Nine miles of scenic trails in the Finger Lakes area that begin at the Nature Center allow you to experience the natural beauty of the Chemung Valley first-hand. We offer hiking year-round and winter activities including snowshoe rentals and GPS rentals. Our 12,000 square foot building features a museum with 43 species of live animals. Our trails are open 365 days/year dawn to dusk. Our museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 9-5 (May-October) or 9-4 (November-April). Admission is free but donations are appreciated.

I've seen walking, running, and biking on these trails. I recommend wearing sturdy shoes, as it can be muddy at times. The trails are well maintained and there are options from a half mile walk to over 3 miles. You can also choose a route that takes you to the overlook, where you can view the Chemung River and the... This is a great natural beauty that can be found in our area. You can follow the trails and see the birds and other animals found in our area. Schools can take field trips and learn about the animals that are natural to this area. Just a nice place all around to take the family.

While on vacation in Elmira and surrounding area we decided to give Nature Center a try. I am sure it is the wrong time of year for it. We did go onside and pretty much all there was to do was to look at mostly mounted animals. Having said that, I am sure kids would enjoy it but it was... More

This beautiful escape from town it's a great place to take your children. I went with my mother grandmother and six-year-old set and we all enjoyed and saw beautiful creatures. Fun walk not very busy and friendly staff would suggest for a fun afternoon

The walking trails are well maintained and offers varied levels from really easy to a moderate three-mile walk. Great in the late fall. I was not expecting it to be so nice, but there was a light snow cover on parts of the trail and underbrush. I did not do the museum.

This is a great place to go fora hike, especially in the fall! You are surrounded by the beautiful fall colors and the leaves are falling around you. We took the red trail, which is the most challenging, but there are other easier trails. When we were finished, the museum was closed. We will come back another day and go... More

Took a day trip to area and stopped in to see the Hedgehog (daughter request). Self-Guided, the staff got the animal out so we could get a closer look which was awesome. Took family on Red Trail loop to Chemung River overlook - great hike! Great for families who enjoy hiking and education.

They have an outdoor aviary with injured birds which was really great to see. On the inside you can view reptiles, snakes, turtles, birds, insects....its small for an adult but great... More
