This site contains the last remains of almost 45,000 German casualties of WW1, brought together here from many cemeteries in the area when the French demanded the return of the land where these other burial sites were located. The rows of black crosses stretch almost...More

Huge German cemetery containing almost 45,000 burials, it is rarely visited by German relatives of the young men who fell during WWI and are buried here, and there were but a handful of flowers or wreaths at any of the graves. The cemetery was empty...More

In this cemetery lie German soldiers - the area is very solemn and brings to mind the losses suffered by all sides during the wars.

I was the only living soul walking around amidst these graves. The cemetery has an overall design of devastating simplicity, thus putting extra emphasis on the terrors of wars. Man should learn from this site.

The German cemetery is a different style to the Commonwealth cemeteries in that trees are allowed to grow amongst the graves and there are no flowers planted, quite bleak. Very quiet on my visit with only our coach party visiting.

Never visited German Cementry before . I was amazed to realize that each cross here has 2 names on one side and 2 names on the rear side and they go as far as you see. Interestingly there are Jewish German head stones among the...More

This is about a half kilometre walk away from La Targette cemetery and shows the opposite side of the conflict on the same scale, namely huge. Very highly maintained and very stark, as is the way with the German cemeteries. There is a war bunker...More
