As the title says, there is nothing here. Without the military there would be no need for the roads.

I pass over this every time I drive home or head out into town. The view has yet to get old. It definitely is a windy pass, so take note.

Heading between Las Cruces and Alamogordo, NM you go over San Agustin Pass. From it you get great views of the Organ Mountains, and the valleys for Las Cruces or White Sands Missile Range. There is a pull off area as sometimes you can be stopped to wait while White Sands conducts a missile test.

It's so windy here, hold onto your car during when you're opening it and stepping out! It's absolutely beautiful to be this high up and look off into the basin and the mountains. We were visiting from NJ, so we don't have anything like this and could really appreciate its beauty.. Beautiful area!

There is a parking area here, overlooking the Tularosa Basin, for when US Rt 70 is closed due to the firing of missiles. I believe there is also a porta-potty, as the wait for the highway to open can be an hour or more. However, if one listens to local radio, such closures are usually announced, so one can plan... Eastbound on Highway 70 out of Las Cruces gives you a great view on the White Sands Missile Range and the basin towards White Sands Nat Monument / Alamogordo. There is a large pull off at the crest on south side of road with display signs, Nike Hercules missile and a short path up to a covered seating area. Stop... More

When we have company from out of town & are heading to White Sands, we stop to show the beautiful vistas to our visiting friends. It can be very gusty at the summit. Hold on to your hats and take lots of photos from the summit.
