We were excited about stopping here to learn more about Roosevelt's Rough Riders. There is so much information and items to view that it was overwhelming. I think it actually may have been more effective for most visitors if they had not given so much detail as I found myself just skipping things after I realized there was no way... More

A great step back in to the past of the old southwest. Many original artifacts of the old west are available to see.

We stopped here to stretch our legs on our way back home to Texas. I am currently reading a biography on Theodore Roosevelt, so I was particularly interested in seeing it. The displays were very informative and the docent gave us a brief history of Las Vegas upon our arrival. Many of the Rough Riders were from NM. Very interesting... More

The city museum is a great place to visit when arriving in Las Vegas, NM. It is free although donations are appreciated. Local history, civil war history and, of course, Teddy Roosevelt 's rough riders history are covered clearly and concisely. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly and answered all of the questions posed by our group of twelve.

Las Vegas, New Mexico is a historic jewel that too few people know exists. The Rough Rider Museum is a great place to get an overview for an area that has been an important pivot point in human history since pre-Columbian days.

This small museum packs a lot of interesting history about the town of Las Vegas, New Mexico and Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders within its walls. The displays are varied and informative and really gives one a feel for what the times were like in years past. From old school desks and a foot operated dentist's drill to the... More

I had been here many years ago and must say how impressed I am with the new displays. Well laid out and has so much to see. Items old uniforms and dresses and a well stocked little casita. Museum is free and there is a attendant to answer questions.

A small, very interesting museum with information and displays including Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders, religious influences in the area, and local color and history. (including a casita!). Overall historical perspective in a concise, limited space. Very worthwhile hour to gain some perspective on the history and influences that go into the making (and decay) of a smaller size American city..

This a small local museum. It's not fancy. If you want to learn about a great little town with an interesting history, this is your place. It puts the town in perspective and illuminates many facets of its history that aren't very well known.
