I learned alot about Mesilla during our visit. This village has a long history under Spanish, Mexican and finally American rule after the Gadsden purchase in 1853 and ratified in 1854. I had no idea that the Butterfield Stage route ran through Mesilla on the way to Tucson. We enjoyed dinner at La Posta de Mesilla

My wife wanted to see the church and we did, we had to wait a few minutes for it to open but it was worth it. We talked to one of the docents and he gave us some of the history about the church which was interesting. It was a beautiful day to walk around the square.

Very well preserved historic village with adequate shops, restaurants and beautiful town square. Very enlightening, history wise, and a must visit when in the area.

One shop after another. Thought we would see historical venues. We did spend time in the Billy the Kid gift shop and picked up some nice t-shirts for the grandchildren.

La Mesilla is an old village near to Las Cruces. Over the years, Las Cruces has grown so that La Mesilla is really just a Las Cruces neighborhood. But it's a quiet hamlet in a bustling city. La Mesilla's focus is the plaza with its bandstand. On one end is an old Catholic Church. Around the Plaza are all sorts... More

Nice place to eat & browse thru shops. Lots of nice jewelry is available for purchase. Benches are located along the Plaza. Be sure to visit the Basilica of San Albino & the gift shop across the street...located to the south of the basilica. Very relaxing atmosphere!

Nice little plaza surrounded by shops and restaurants. We went on a Tuesday afternoon in April and it seemed that not all shops were opened. Not sure if it was just off season, an off day, or if they were going out of business. There still was enough for us to do for several hours between a wonderful lunch (see... More

We visited Old Mesilla on our way to White Sands Missile Ground. We had been to Las Crueces before and never knew this old plaza was there. There is a great Mexican Food restaurant, a wonderful book store, a very good fudge shop and a interesting church on the plaza. If you have been to Las Crueces and haven't visited... More
