From US 180, turn right on Catwalk Road, also known as NM Rte. 174. The trailhead is at the end of the narrow, winding, and dip-filled road, about 5 miles away.

The hike is not terribly challenging if you are relatively fit. The views are amazing and the kids had a blast playing in the water. Bring swimsuits and water shoes.

The drive from Silver City took almost an hour and a half, but it was a nice drive. The Catwalk is really cool, and there is some history posted about mining in the area that is interesting. Definitely worth visiting.

Tucked into a remote and beautiful part of the Gila National Forest is a little known recreation area called 'the Catwalk.' The actual catwalk is roughly 1/2 mile metal walkway suspended on the cliffs of a small gorge, over a year-round stream. The original was...More

It's open, but just not the entire length of the original one, but still worth the trip.
