Easy hike along the canyon walls. A must see and an interesting history lesson about early mining. Early morning in the warmer months.

Wheel chair accessable walk now open. Easy stroll from the parking area into the canyon. This is worth the drive from whereever you are.

I love going to the catwalk. The history, the view, the creek, and now a paved parking lot, handicapped access, newer catwalk, and a bathroom. Such a country! I used to go there quite often as a child and young adult. Unfortunately, quite a few years ago a very large flood had devastated much of the trail. Since that time... More

This is a must see place in a quiet corner of New Mexico. We toured this canyon while staying at D&D B&B just down the road from here. When you hike up the catwalk take your time and take water with you.

One of my new favorite places! We have been to a lot of National Parks and Monuments, but the Catwalk National Recreation Trail at Whitewater Picnic Area is something special. The trail follows Whitewater Creek into a narrow, scenic canyon and then traverses a metal grid walkway right above the creek. The infrastructure for the trail was originally built to... More

We walked to view the trail and it was just what we had read about. The metal walkway interspersed along the large cliff walls is an easy walk with a lovely stream below. Unfortunately there has been some recent flooding that destroyed the trail about 1/2 a mile up so you could only go so far but it was worth... More

The Catwalk Trail takes about 1 hour 25 minutes to reach from Silver City, New Mexico, if you drive the speed limit. It is located about 5 miles from Glenwood, New Mexico at the end of Highway 174 where there's a large parking lot. If you do not have a Golden Age Passport or other National Park type pass, there's... More

It's an amazing a must see, the catwalk and the views and sounds of the water running thru the canyon. their are two treks, unless necessary go the difficult trek and go back via the easy, very different views from both sides. BTW the cost for this is the standard $3 fee so have single dollar bills or check.

It is a 1 mile round trip hike. It is extremely pretty. They did an excellent job with the rebuild of Catwalk trail. I had my doubts that the new trail would be any match for what it was in the old days, I was very pleasantly surprised.
