From US 180, turn right on Catwalk Road, also known as NM Rte. 174. The trailhead is at the end of the narrow, winding, and dip-filled road, about 5 miles away.

Spent several years putting this on my to do list and then taking it off due to fires and floods. So glad we finally got there. The only problem we had was directions to the trail head. There is a sign as you turn off...More

Suspended by bolts in rock, this trail over a scenic creek is most unusual. Easily navigated by those who are physically challenged. Rock canyon is quite narrow and you are suspended above it as you traverse it.

In the Gila National forest this attraction is a bit out of the way, but the road is paved. Very nice area with the creek flowing next to the trail. A very nice picnic area near the entrance is next to the creek and there...More

This is a great, short hike to stretch your legs. $3/car or use your National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Passes. There are vault toilets, picnic tables, and the biggest Arizona Sycamore trees I have ever seen. You can easily access Whitewater Creek along the...More

The hike is not terribly challenging if you are relatively fit. The views are amazing and the kids had a blast playing in the water. Bring swimsuits and water shoes.

From Silver City, this is a pleasnt drive, bit over an hour north on 180. I recommend stopping at the Leopold Vista along the way for a view of the country, and a pit stop. No place to stop to eat, so a picnic is...More

The drive from Silver City took almost an hour and a half, but it was a nice drive. The Catwalk is really cool, and there is some history posted about mining in the area that is interesting. Definitely worth visiting.

I don't recall exactly, but it was not very long. I think between a half mile to 1 mile. You can make the hike longer if you continue past the catwalk.

It's open, but just not the entire length of the original one, but still worth the trip.
