The museum, site of Old Fort Sumner, and Billy the Kid's grave are at a site a few miles out of town off Hwy. 60/84. The site is well marked both in Fort Sumner and on Hwy 60/84. What you get is a historical marker...More

The most infamous outlaw in history was Billy the Kid, to be able to stand there in the cemetery where Billy was buried is just an incredible feeling. To see his headstone and read about how it was stolen and recovered is quite fascinating. This...More

The museum is closed but the cemetery is interesting to walk through, especially if you like history of the old west.

All that is left here is the cemetery. Sad to see that the museum wasn't opened. The one down the road doesn't have a whole lot of Billy related history.

The museum has gone out of business recently. But the real attraction is still open- the cemetery. It is free and well-maintained. Though it is not definitive that the grave location is correct because of early flooding it really does not matter. It is still...More
