My husband and I decided to drive the enchanted circle in NM and we added the Cimarron Canyon State Park drive onto our itinerary. The drive starts near the Eagle Nest Lake and goes about 8 miles from end to end. There's a river the...More

We had decided to take a more scenic drive to our destination and the route took us through the state park. It was a lovely drive and much nicer than driving on the busy interstate.

It was a nice quiet place to camp on my way elsewhere. Due to the size I would avoid it duing the height of summer. A rainy night in september, it had few people, all interested in fishing. Nice to wake up to the sounds...More

Very nice campground in the mountains. We stopped off for a night before heading to Philmont Scout Ranch. The campsite next to the river was nice with ample space for the tents and to spread out and relax.

I don't think I would love the roads in the winter but what beauty in the summer! Even if you don't stop to camp, hike, etc. driving through Cimarron Canyon State Park is great for the spirit.

A friend sampled several spots on the Cimarron River for trout while I walked around and marvelled at the fast moving, clean river and the towering rock of the Palisades area. Beautiful area just to drive through but exploring on foot was even better.

Cimarron Canyon State Park is great place to experience the outdoors. In the summer there are several fishermen working the banks. One of my family's favorite hikes is Clear Creek Falls. A nice moderate and shaded hike to pretty waterfalls.
