Very much unexpected. Chimayo is a small hamlet but has a great museum. Having been involved in a museum coming to fruition in NY, it takes a lot of work and time. It takes about a year just to get a 501c3, which is a must in order to get donations. The gentleman at the counter was a wealth of... More

The museum is in a small historical house and doesn't take long to see. There are some fantastic old photos and artwork from early settlers in the area. I especially loved the photos of a wedding that took place long ago. Lots of Hispanic history and interesting displays.

Well worth the little detour to find and to explore this small local museum. You'll learn more about the history of El Sanctuario, the Cimayo area and the locals who call this magical place their home. Some nice photos documenting the annual pilgrimage are here also. Worth a visit. ...

On a recent trip through New Mexico my travel companion and I found Chimayo to be a wonderful excersion away from the shopping and skiing. The grounds are beautiful with so much to see and feel. Not knowing much about Chimayo I just took from it what it had to offer. The alters and crucifixes were absolutely beautiful I cannot... More

We thought that the highlight of this museum was speaking with the gentleman behind the counter. He clearly knew a lot about the history of the town and wanted to preserve its' heritage. We got lost on the way to the museum and drove through the abandoned plaza of the town, which is right behind the museum. This museum is... More

Worth the trip from Sante Fe. About an hour northeast. This is a very spiritual place. Enjoyed touring this very tiny town.

The Chimayo museum is really great. A little museum with a big story to tell. It tells the history of the area and the folks who lived and died there. A great place to spend some time in.

This was our first visit to Chimayo and it was definately worth the drive. We stopped back by the winery and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. Try the Holy Moly

This is an authentic effort by local people who care about preserving Chimayo's past for locals and tourists alike. It's not big or splashy but very humble like the inhabitants here.
