It is a short, pleasant walk from Jampey Lhakhang to this complex, consisting of 3 temples. It is said that Guru Rinpoche meditated here and left an imprint of his body. Our guide told us that "kur" means body, and "jey" means print. We continued our walk to a small suspension bridge and then returned on the other side of... More

Since we had two days at Bumthang, we kept one day for seeing the local tourists attractions. The attractions include Bumthang Dzong (one of the steepest climb to reach the place), all monasteries/temples, Golden temple (a relatively new one), etc. We visited Kurje Lakhang and spent some time here. There were very few tourists here and we enjoyed the serene... More

Kurjey Lhakhang is one of the must visit temples when you are in Bumthang. I was staying at one of the lodges, Rincheling which is less than half hour walk to this temple. Pleasant walk in the morning passing by farms and seeing farmers working in the field.

Kurjey lhakhang is a site visited & meditated by Guru Rimpoche in the 8th century thereby leaving a body impring on the rock where the main temple stands today. This is also a site where many lamas from around the world visit, pray and prostrate before the guru image there.

A series of 3 temples dedicated to Guru Rinpoche - one of the most revered Gurus in Bhutan. The folklore about the temples is very interesting. The place is also a scared area for all monks who do higher levels of meditation.

We had the chance to talk to the monk in charge who even invited us to his room got tea. It was an extremely surreal experience. We also managed to see the body print of Guru Rinpoche which he left behind when he meditated at this monastery. It was simply amazing!

Where Guru Rimpoche meditated and left a body imprint on the stone cliff face. Very holy place and also connected to Bhutanese history. Be sure to get the story of the 8 manifestations of Guru Rimpoche.
