Avoid it at all costs!
Nov 2019
Da Wandering Wabbits were heading from Siagon, down to the floating markets on the Mekong Delta. We broke our journey at My Tho, and visited the Dong Tam Snake Farm: this proved to be the biggest mistake of our travelling lives.
Dong Tam is a snake bite research centre, so we expected to see snakes being professionally ‘milked’ for their venom and hear some interesting commentary about the centre’s research successes...
What we saw was dirty, disgusting, absolutely appalling – not only to Western sensitivities but to anyone with the tiniest thought for animal welfare.
Previous TripAdvisor reviews – by the likes of DomRa (Nov.2019), Filip N (July 2018), Helen (May 2018), joannaQ109910 (May 2018) and more – are all entirely accurate. They have not exaggerated anything. Believe every word they have written: we could not have said it better.
It's just a shame we can't rate this place LOWER than "terrible"...because that's precisely what it was!
Places like this cannot be condoned by your visit, nor supported by your money. The Dong Tam Snake Farm MUST BE AVOIDED at all costs!

It is terrible here. According to the habits of Europe, animals suffer here. They have very small coop, ex.monkey,tiger,bears. Some animals have not a water.

Snake Farm
Oct 2019
It seems Vietnam is well behind the times when it comes to animal well being. Some of the enclosures are absolutely heartbreaking. However it was nice to have some space, peace and quiet and we loved the python.

Prior to Snake Farm
Jan 2019 • Solo
I was stationed with the 9th Infantry Division at Dong Tam, prior to the Snake Farm. I suppose as the 9th moved out, and the Vietnamese government took over this area, converted it to a snake farm. The water level was approximately 6 inches, every time it rained, the whole post was flooded.

Zoo for snake
Feb 2018 • Family
This is a zoo for snakes. However, it is small and does not have many interesting activities. This would be more suitable for children than for adults.

Trai Ran Dong Tam

First I thought visiting this place was a mistake, then I realized it was worth it as I can share the experience with you.

Trai Ran Dong Tam claims to be one of the largest snake-raising centers in Vietnam, and as a nature lover I was hoping to learn more about these fascinating animals.
The first disappointment came right after entering the park. Among shops with refreshments, there was a store with leather goods offering bags, belts and wallets made out of snake as well as crocodile skins. Unfortunately that was only the beginning.
Following the path you would come to the first “attraction”. Two gibbons in a cage with no trees, no plants, no earth. Only metal, concrete and a shelter made out of rusty plates. Soon I realized the whole place is built like this.
It was not a reservation and not even a zoo. It was an extremely cruel prison for animals. You do not have to be a zoologist to see how much the animals suffer in Trai Ran Dong Tam. And not only the gibbons. There were macaques with chains around their necks bound to trees. The chains were about one meter long so the monkeys could not move and did not even have access to water. Other macaques were kept in concrete cages without any trees, plants and places to hide.
Two wild bengal cats were kept in a tiny cage with a wire mesh floor. They had only one wooden bench with nails coming out of it. A starved horse lived among plastic garbage. An ostrich with barely any feathers (likely due to boredom and stress). A majestic bengal tiger had a cage no bigger than 30 square meters. The same was the case for two Malaysian bears.
Unfortunately the list continues and not even the snakes had better living conditions. There were hundreds of them all kept in extremely small concrete or metal cages that were found all over the park. There was no attention given to the needs of specific species, all of them were kept in the same, about 1 square meter big cages. You would not even find any information signs, so you would not know what you were looking at.
The biggest snakes were kept in a building, treated as products rather living beings. Their cages were completely empty except for the bowls with water. Some had wooden floors, some had nothing but wire mesh instead. The snakes could not hide and could not properly move.
Taxidermized snakes were exhibited in a building called “The museum of snakes”, along with a turtle, tiger and a few other species.

The last terrible thing I saw in Trai Ran Dong Tam were two puppies chained to a tree painted to look like tigers.

I dislike writing negative reviews and I am a positive person, but what I saw in this place was so sad and so cruel I think it is my duty to spread knowledge about it to as many people as possible.

So so sad!
May 2018 • Couples
This is probably the saddest part of our entire trip and I wouldn’t even give it one star! Absolutely heart broken to see the animals in such poor conditions. The “snake farm” was simply rows of small concrete cages which you could hardly see in to. Monkeys in trees had a chain round their neck with no room to play. Bears were swaying side to side looking desperate. Tigers laying still looking very slim. Cats in tiny cages. Eurgh the whole zoo was horrible, couldn’t leave quick enough. The saddest part is that the garden is more looked after than the animals, which are spared a bit of concrete in a cage. So much nature around them an not one bit of greenery in their cages. I wish I read reviews before going, this is the worst thing I’ve ever seen... So so sad! :(

First I want to say, that we really like zoos in general. But the way they keep the animals in way too small cages is just cruel. Water for fishes is dirty.
Further xou don't even see much of the snakes, because they are very much hidden in their cages.

Snake Farm & Zoo
Nov 2017 • Couples
It was a combination of a snake farm and a small Zoo combination, with pretty old fashioned exhibitions and conditions for the animals. Supposedly does some good by providing venom for making anti venom for poisonous snake bites. But, nothing special here.
