Our journey started at 4.30 am from the hotel in Berastagi. Travelled in minivans that take 6 to 8 persons. The journey to the foot of the mountain is around 30 minutes. To add to the excitement, there was an earth quake around 1 am that morning and another minor quake as we reached the foot of the mountain. felt... More

The route was so easy as it was pavements and stairs to walk by and a little hike. Took only 45 mins to go up. The view was breathtaking. Will hike again to catch sunrise.

I climbed Mount Sibayak (Gunung Sibayak) a stratovolcano in northern Sumatera with my hiking friends last Friday. A day before the expedition, we traveled from Medan to Berastagi town and stayed at Green Garden Hotel for the night. The next morning, we woke up early to get to the trailhead of Mount Sibayak, led a tour guide. We started our... More

What a great hike from the mid point to the top. We start ascending at 5am to see sunrise. Good headlamp is a must with jacket agains cold and proper hiking shoes. To reach the top is only takes about 1 and half hours of slow hike. When the nose start to pick up sulfur (rotten eggs) odour it means... More

You can see the live mount ash eruption, while enjoying the hot spring bath. Also get to see how the local lives... lots of farms and green produce.

The mountain is a fantastic climb (and not easy) and the smell of sulphur is something to behold. However, our experience was somewhat tarnished by the prevalence of litter everywhere. Plastic bottles and wrappers everywhere. However, the quieter 2 hour trek down towards the hot springs was better maintained (less well trod)

We went up to Mounth Sibayak this afternoon. We are 2 adults and 2 children have paid Idr 500,000 for a driver at the same time as our tour guide. He drove us up to starting point and we walked up 1 hour to the top. My family really enjoy the trip. It was beautiful and unforgetable. We stay at... More

We walked all the way to the top. It was a nice hike with a view or two and as there were no other people around we spotted some hornbills and monkeys. It was quite a shock when we came to the parking lot. There was so much garbage left from previous visitors that we couldn't beleive our eyes! Is... More

Went to see the vulcano by sunrise during the weekend. Alot of local young people from Medan had the same idea wich made it a nice shared experience. The hike was about an hour from a parking lot and when it got light you are amazed with the view. Luckily we had a clear blue sky and we could see... More

I followed Andy from Nachelle homestay and he took us up at about 4am in the morning. It was really dark, but def not a difficult hike. Was a pity that it was cloudy and we couldn't see the sunrise. But was an amazing experience to be climbing on active volcano in the dark. Bring along a jacket that is... More
