While visiting Princeton it is worth stopping by the Art Museum. It is a small museum but well organized with many sections. In addition to the permanent collection they often have exhibits with a specific theme. I highly recommend it.

This is a FABULOUS museum with many artifacts and art exhibits appropriate for all ages! It really has a phenomenal collection. While it's a smaller museum it certain is captivating. The donation request in lieu of a specified payment is also attractive.

We wanted to visit Princeton University during our visit to the area. Then we didn't know of the great museum it offers for free. There are various exhibits with arts and crafts from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America & US that we spent over 2 hours viewing the exhibits there till we were very hungry.

I have been wanting to get down to Princeton specifically to visit the University Art Museum and was able to do so on a recent weekend. Just the walk through the Princeton campus is special due to its idyllic setting and buildings that are architecturally stunning. This art museum is first rate and has an unbelievable collection ranging from ancient... More

I have never seen another small museum with such famous artist paintings likes of Van Gogh and Monet must be worth millions. Being a layman to these artsy things, I was engrossed for hours in this small museum. While there, I've seen people sit down and stare at one piece of artwork forever. There is no guide to walk you... More

It is free and they have great collections! You can do it in about 2/3 hours and then walk around Princeton or go for food in one of the great restaurants!

OK - this isn't excellent like the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Louvre. It's excellent as a museum in what is a small university town, otherwise suburban New Jersey. I wouldn't recommend that someone come special to go to this if you are staying in a city with its own museums. But we were visiting people in Princeton, and... More

You're not at the Met or the National Gallery, you're on Princeton's campus, and the university museum exists first to serve student needs. Therefore it presents superb examples of paintings, sculpture, and photography from each period, style, and region, beautifully mounted and curated. Don't expect a roomful of Warhols or Monets and you won't be disappointed.

Came for the Berlin Painter exhibit (nice -- many more pieces than I expected; in the labels would have liked more on technique, given that the exhibition was on a particular attributed painter, but nice on content and context) and then checked out the other ancient works on the lower level. Generally well labeled and some interesting pieces.

Always free and always good. Has the grand masters as well as lesser known artists. There's even a small store so you can take a little bit of the museum home with you.
