Beautiful day to explore!

When you get a day in the upper 70's in February (in NJ), you find something to do outdoors! Batsto Village was suggested to us, so we took a ride over. We (my 10 year old daughter and myself) were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful grounds! Part of Wharton State Forest, the area is just beautiful. The structures there are... More

This is a wonderfully preserved place to visit; a great museum. Nice grounds for children to have fun on; beautiful scenery and not too much to take in for an afternoon. Give a donation to enter. I highly recommend.

We decided to heat to Batsto Village on Columbus day. It was a fun day. One of the best parts is the 'free range' that the kids have to have fun while learning and enjoying the sights. There is so much space for them to run and enjoy nature and hike through the woods. The person on staff at the... More

I have been coming here since I was a kid. The museum is a fantastic representation of the history. The village itself, while short on volunteers is a great example of the time. The tours through the house and exhibits interpreted by volunteers are excellent. This place is great for families and there are always events there. There is many... More

Very nice attempt to recreate a 250 year old iron making community created originally by Joseph Wharton. It is good to take your time, stroll and explore this lovely historic attraction. Besides the old Wharton mansion there are almost forty other buildings, blacksmith shop, gristmill, stables, wheelwright shop etc. There is a lot to see here and plenty of well... More

With the first nip of fall in the air, my husband suggested a ride to Batsto Village. It's been many years since we had been there, and we were quite pleasantly surprised. We started with a short hike on one of the lovely trails on the other side of the parking lot. After a stop at the visitors' center, we... More

I go to Batsto for several reason and always I find it alluring. It's history capture the hearts of many and it's architecture the creativity of the artist. For a mother, that loves history, there is nothing more pleasurable then to take a stroll with a little one, while showing the ancient building is settlers, or showing the small, well... More

I have visited here so many times before I never get tired of visiting. As many times as I have visited before I never had the opportunity to take a tour of the mansion. This time around I happen to be visiting on a day that was perfect. It was a Saturday and tours were going on and tickets were... More

This place is a really cool piece of NJ history, with a lot of buildings still standing and kept up, it's cool to see how the workers at Batsto lived and how the owners lived. Mansion tours are extra, but it is cool to see. The village is free to walk through, as are the barns and shop and saw... More

Great historical field trip! My students and I had a wonderful time seeing history brought to life! Really feels like a step back through time...
