The short movie (13 minutes) on the history of Portsmouth was eye opening for new visitors like us. The historians featured in the film are engaging with a wry sense of humor. Really a standout for these types of films and indicative of Portsmouth as a standout place. The staff person at Discover Portsmouth was friendly and helpful and our... More

15 min. movie (only one factual error), suitable to children and adults. Lobby with high=end, as opposed to t-shirts and usual junk). Separate display of antique chests & cabinets.

Across from Portsmouth's "Health Food Store," the Discover Portsmouth Center offers walking tours, African-American center, art exhibits of local artists, and a big gift shop. Very helpful staff. Fun, whimsical gingerbread exhibit in Autumn/Winter (?) - well worth a visit then for the young at heart. Discover Portsmouth is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Info Booth in downtown... More

We went for the Ginger Bread House exhibit and it was wonderful... a treat for the "bah-humbug" in all of us. The local hanging art exhibit was just as good. It's just a cool place to visit.

We were fortunate enough to visit during the annual gingerbread competition and were delighted to see the imaginative and detailed entries. We also enjoyed discussing the "What Artists Look Like" exhibit with several of the staff members.

Let me be clear... I live here and have for over three quarters of a century. I volunteer as a docent greeting visitors and helping them with their querries about what is going on in Portsmouth. Although we close for Jan., Feb, and most of Mar. we are otherwise open 7 days a week. As part of our mission we... More

The small but friendly staff showed us a short video documenting the history of Portsmouth. Unfortunately, we visited when the weather was threatening to turn, so we couldn't go on the walking tour the center offers. There is also a good gift shop on the premises.

Discover Portsmouth is an especially well done visitor's center for the city of Portsmouth. The brief historical video about the area and Strawberry Banke provided information to help us better understand the history and community. We were given a coupon to save a total of $4 off our Strawberry Banke admission tickets. In addition to the video there are other... More

We met our walking tour guide on a chilly cloudy morning and were lead around Portsmouth while enjoying her very knowledgeable descriptions of the historical sites. All the participants were very happy with the tour especially as our guide ran overtime thus extending our enjoyment. Great value and a must when visiting Portsmouth.
