Keene NH is a small New England town over-run by college students to the point they caused this town to lose it's long run Pumpkin Festival they had for many years. It has become rather run down and crime ridden, homeless individuals, and drugs...what was once is now the typical US small town ...I know, i live here.

This is small city ambience right out of the movie studios. A beautiful tree shaded square, iron fencing, floers in summer, with benches for sitting and watching the world go by. At the top of the square is a large white steepled church, with small bistros lining all sides of the square, many with outdoor tables in warm weather. The... More

The Monadnock Region is real hidden jewel if you enjoy experiencing New England at it's very best. Central Square Is part of the experience. Really too many things to see to mention and suggest you check out the region on the web.

so, before the square was a bit of a mess. There were people smoking salvia and basically it was a hang out. The store owners were a bit upset (wonderful stores here) and yet it was all legal. Now it is a New England tradition to have protesters at their town squares, so that's FINE. But, people hanging out doing... More

A wonderfully picturesque common with often photographed church steeple. Just a beautiful centerpiece for a nice New Hampshire city.

Quintessential New England common. Where else would something that is round be called a square? Cute bandstand dedicated by President Carter's wife, Roslyn Carter, in the 70's and featured in Robin William's movie Jumanji. All viewed from the Stage Restaurant at the head of the square.

Just walking around the Central Square in Keene feels like a set of Our Town. From the steeple to the statuary, it's all a nice throw back to a pleasant time.

We happened upon Keene as a waypoint. I am sure glad that we did. There are multiple shops, restaurants, and small niche stores that you could easily spend an afternoon or evening perusing. I later saw in a guidebook that it may have the widest downtown main street in the U.S., which may be possible given the beautiful areas in... More

Perfect town for walking and Main Street is loaded with great places to shop and dine. Sidewalks are well maintained and you can walk all over safely. Plenty of beautiful flowers and a gazebo in the center. Benches to sit and relax in the Main Street. Ice cream and coffee shops and outside seating for many of the local restaurants.... More
