While I wouldn't plan a trip based on this museum, if you find yourself in this town - GO to the museum. Fascinating on many levels, mostly finding out Mark Twain spent time here writing for the local paper and developed his Mark Twain name...More

We went to the Mark Twain Museum of Memories. This was a fascinating museum to see. Mark Twain (born Samuel Clemens) made his way out west to be a news paper reporter for Virginia City. It was a time of mining, and a booming mining...More

The real attraction in this basement full of random antique printing knick knacks is the original desk that Twain used while working on the Virginia City paper, the Territorial Enterprise. Otherwise, it's a jumble of old papers (none of them by Twain), typesetting equipment, printing...More

The lady was nice and helpful but the museum wasn't worth $5. It is a basement room with old printing equipment but not much about Mark twain other that paintings.

The museum was contained in a basement below the gift shop. The history of the building is interesting, and there were a couple of neat pieces, but nothing particularly illuminating about Mark Twain himself. I wouldn't recommend really recommend this to visitors.

We stopped by here during our visit to Virginia City. To access the museum you enter a gift shop, fork over your ducats, (believe it was $6) and are let past a chain to go downstairs in the large one room museum. This room was...More

As you will see, if my photos are published, the Mark Twain Museum has one big issue. Very narrow and very steep stairs leading down to the museum proper. So it is not for everyone in my humble opinion. That being said I enjoyed looking...More

Hidden inside a gift shop, it's a very nice comprehensive museum for Mark Twain and his association with the city and things he's written and said. Lots of good history on his life and works.

Although a small museum, the information you receive is well worth the couple bucks getting in. We especially enjoyed seeing the old pictures of miners and the equipment they used.
