This was an wonderful way to spend part of an afternoon. The trip was not long, maybe an hour and we were pulled by the diesel engine, not the steam engine. However, the 'conductor' gave us a talk on the history of the railroad and...More

We purchased tickets in Virgina City and took a 5 min walk downhill to the train depot. The train ride was about 45 mins. I learned a lot about Virgina City and the Railroad. The train had both open air and covered seating. It is...More

Don't be put off by the $50 link on the TripAdvisor web page. The $50 option is if you take the train from Carson City to Virginia City. For $10 you can take the train from Virginia City to Gold Hill (approx 2 miles). In...More

Nice ride through the rugged Nevada mining country side. The train offers both covered and open air seating so do what you want depending on the weather. Ride takes about an hour and does leave on time so plan accordingly. I would suggest early morning...More

This was a short, but fun and entertaining ride. The conductor was friendly and the announcer was funny and knew his history well. The ride was a bit uncomfortable and bumpy, but I guess that’s part of the experience. Make sure you have cash at...More

Just a fun 35 minute diversion in the small town of Virginia City. The announcer was fun and told lots of stories of the area and mining. Glad we did this!

Hello. My husband is crazy about steam engines. He is the guy who will walk around the train, look at all the nuts and bolts and be in pure unadulterated heaven. That being said I have a couple of questions. 1. Is it possible for him to sit up front with the engineer during a part or all of the ride? Just so he can experience that? 2. What is the longest trip you have? We do adventures for my niece and her young son. He has no dad in his life and my husband is his favorite person in the world outside of his mom. So Virginia City sounds like an amazing adventure for us to take them on. Thanks SO much!

Nor sure about riding in the cab, though it sounds like it is a possibility. The longest option is the ride from Carson City (Eastgate) roundtrip to Virginia city. The ride is approximately 1.5 hours each way with a three... More
