This place is highly underrated! Visit here and see a desert area that inspires artists of all types. The scenic driving loop is ideal for those with limited time. The one-way road is two lane, so you can easily pass if you have to, so don't worry about getting trapped on the loop (like you can on the Cades Cove... More

While in Vegas, take time to make the trip (about 15-20 miles west) to Red Rock. The first two stops, Calico Canyon, on the 13 mile park drive are musts. Hike down into the canyon and between the red rocks. Great way to get an up-close appreciation of the unique geology.

Breath taking place just outside of Vegas. If your in town for the weekend. Take a day trip over to the Red Rock Canyon. It's pretty cheap to get. I don't remember the exact amount, but it's worth it. There are plenty of stops along the way if you choose to do the car ride around. Awesome photo opportunities waiting... More

We rented a car and drove there from Vegas. Great day trip. Was very busy the day we went, but really enjoyed many of the trails to hike. We liked the Visitors Center, too.

Magnificent geological display. Unique, colorful rocks with the strata inverted in places (older rock on top of younger) - I've not seen anything quite like it. The visitor center is only average but the drive is spectacular in places.

Red Rock Canyon is an area of varicolored red and pale sandstone rock just west of Las Vegas. A half hour drive will take you there from the Strip. The experience is in many ways similar to the red rock coultry of Utah, Colorado and Arizona, but is the most convenient for an half-day or day excursion into nature and... More

Not that interesting for Southwest scenery. The 12 mile scenic loop is an easy drive with many stopping areas with a variety of hikes. Found the drive to Valley of the Fire State Park (east entrance) and the park itself was substantially more scenic, diverse and interesting.
