Coming from Europe the word forest created expectations! The trees are small and sparcec but the views are incredible. We journeyed all day through Lamoille and up into the hills and then high into the Rubies. It was a day not to be missed.

I was staying in Elko with a friend who suggested a drive up to Lamoille Canyon which was a great idea with the beautiful weather we had that day. I was totally shocked as I drove out of Elko because you don't see the mountain...More

Gets a bit crowded during Utah's pioneer days, but other than that, it's a gorgeous alpine environment. Several hikes are available. I've seen a herd of sheep from the uppermost trailhead. Enjoy!

It's a 12 miles paved road in and the same road out. There is restrooms at the end and lots of hiking trail throughout.

Summers in Lamoille are great for hiking, picnicking and camping, and winters are perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The area is about thirty minutes (by car) from Elko, and it's great for solo explorers or the whole family.

We spent the morning driving and walking trails in Lamoille Canyon. Access to the canyon is free, although picnic areas require a fee. The area is dog-friendly and dogs must be kept on lead. I highly recommend the 1/2 mile long "changing canyon trail" that...More

In th mountains of Lamoille, it would be quite cold, typically. It's quite alpine and could be nice for snowshoeing.
