This is the biggest train yard I have ever seen. It is 8 miles long. The switching yard has 88 side tracks. Over 125 trains go through here each day. The locomotives refuel here and they use 18 million gallons per month. There is a repair facility that works on over 9000 locomotives per month. It is a huge operation.... More

Thoroughly enjoyed this experience. We went to both floors that are accessible in the tower. Learned about what goes on in the worlds largest RR yard. Staff was friendly & helpful - more than willing to answer questions. Neat gift shop without the normal 'junky' stuff. Well worth the hour we spent at the Golden Spike Tower and Visitors Center.

this is what you see from the top of the golden spike. without being in the air your view is basically covered up by all the trains that go thru this area.

This place is not only educational, but fun to watch. They have a great view in all directions and folks there to answer your questions. It is a very, very active yard. YOU sure can see how your goods go coast to coast.

We stopped at the place after spending the night. It was a little out of the way but I'm so glad we took the time and did it. Very interesting and gave me a whole new insight on how trains interact and get sorted out. The man who volunteers up in the tower is retired from the RR and was... More

What a way to see how goods are transported across the country. Bailey Yards is the largest diesel facility in the world. Amazing to watch railroad cars get moved from one train to another.....

I'd seen the Bailey Railyard before from ground level. The view from Golden Spike along with accompanying excellent print materials that explained the different facets of the yard made this an experience filled with learning opportunities. Whenever we saw a train the next two weeks, my husband and I raced to see who could recall more information. Good experience.
