Stopped at the scenic lookout spot on the east side of the pass....very fine review of the area provided by the State on site and, even on a somewhat smokey day, the view was superb.

Another short free trip that we took because of tripadvisor reviews. A nice drive up to the pass, pulled in at the turnout. Read the historical plaque about the pass and took pictures of the beauty. In July, it was still 25 degrees cooler than...More

We traveled through the pass three times in less than a week and it is really lovely with great views. On one of our trips there was some snow, but thankfully the roads were clear.

I hear this pass mentioned on weather forecasts on my computer in Ohio. I wanted to see it and was most impressed with view. The mountains and valley are splendid.

I somehow love the twilight time of evening when it is still light enough to see but dark enough to where the lights are coming on. This view of Helena from Mcdonald Pass Lookout is awesome that time of night.

Beautiful views!! Spectacular. ......weather can be crazy up that high though. Weather in town can be fine yet it could be blizzarding on the top of the pass if you visit during the winter months. Takes less than 1/2 hour to drive to from town.

Need to exit vehicle at top of pass and take photos. Be sure to read at the Summit the way it got its name.
