Excellent beer. Interesting post-industrial setting. Train lovers clearly own the place. One of the best breweries in Montana. And that's not faint praise. I live in MIssoula where we have 12 breweries and all of them brew good beer. If you like craft beer, styles you won't find at the Montana Brewery and Restaurant (or BJs, or Rock Bottom etc),... Of the many microbreweries we have in Billings, Carters is still the best. Smaller than some others with the best beer. His flagship ones are always a good go to, especially the porter, and the seasonal rotators are very pleasing.

Walked into Carters and was met by aromatic treasures - the place smells like a brewery - a really, really good brewery. It's pretty small inside and when trains pass by on the tracks just on the other side of the wall, it's quite an experience. My friends each tried a flight, but I went right for the special -... Lots to choose from and they offer a flight..... $4 for 4 pours (generous) cant beat it...NO FOOD= 4 stars. Well, fat is good when drinking (not bread, culinary secret) food should be a must. Ambience is a big plus with the trains running a few feet away. Not as "refined" inside as other places definitely outgrowing their space. Lemongrass... More

Awesome beer in a very charming spot--the train comes by and you can go out and watch while drinking. Went to Montana Brewery after and that place was awful. This is great.

This brewery sits right on the railroad tracks. Fancy and refined, it's not. But atmosphere is fun and casual. Enjoy your beer while sitting out on the patio watching the rails for trains. A wide variety of beers on tap!

I been brewing beer for 30 years now and know what substandard beer taste like and this place is one of them. The ahi tuna sandwich was very very good

I've lived in both Bozeman and Billings for large chunks of time, and Carter's dominates both places (over 20 breweries between the 2 of them!). A striking thing about Carter's is their experimentation. Always tons of seasonals, usually something on cask, and their standbys are truly outstanding. Truly wish they'd develop a canning operation :). Both the Derailed and the... More

Carter's has the most diverse selection of rotating, hand-crafted beers anywhere in the region. On any given day there are 12 - 18 different beers on tap ranging from the hoppiest IPA's, to a variety of belgian's, bitters and sour beers, award-winning porters, and unique seasonal beers. You really won't find better beer anywhere in our area and there is... More
