Overview
More
The Missouri Civil War Museum is housed in the old 1905 Jefferson Barracks Post Exchange (PX) and Gymnasium building, formerly part of the Jefferson Barracks military post, which is still an active military installation to this day. Renovations began in 2003, and were completed 10 years later in 2013, with an opening date of June 29, 2013. During the Civil War, the property which this museum is located upon, contained various hospital ward buildings, where suffering and death occurred, thus making this sacred ground, and a most appropriate location for a Missouri Civil War Museum, honoring our soldiers of the past and present.

Outstanding job! This was a great place to visit and see how Missouri fit into the Civil War. The men and women who restored this old building and now keep it run should be very proud of what they have accomplished. My 3rd great grandfather...More

We had several history buffs in our group and we were interested in this small museum and so too did the "non-buffs" seem engaged. Don't have high hopes for a big Civil War experience- the exhibits are small but nice. Might be more of a...More

I was killing time when the husband was at a conference, and found this. the staff was knowledgeable about all things relating to the civil war in Missouri, and the exhibits were well thought out.

The museum is off the beaten path, but the information is very good. I learned a lot about the Missouri/Kansas border wars. The exhibits were very good. The weapons and uniforms gave you a feel of what it was like back then. This is a...More

As a bridge I actually know very little about the US Civil War. I found this exhibition fascinating in what it told me about both sides of the conflict and what happened there. A very moving museum.

This is a well-done museum! I'm a Civil War buff with family connections to the period in this area, but I didn't know anything about the vicious nature of the CW in Missouri! Truly brutal! The museum tells the story without sugar coating. The displays...More

We had a nice visit to the MO Civil War Museum this week. We spent about an hour there and were glad we stopped. The admission was a little expensive for an hour, but it goes toward a good cause. They had many items of...More

Only if they are very, very interested in that time period. City Museum is a better option for them. Or the Magic House is tailored made for that age.
