The Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, the superstructure of the Cathedral was built between 1907 and 1914. The Cathedral's 100th Anniversary is being celebrated in 2014. It is known for its' beautiful interior mosaics, which took nearly 80 years to create using more than 41 million pieces of glass tesserae. The Cathedral is known for having one of the largest mosaic collections in the Western Hemisphere.

this is a special place for its beautiful interior mosaic decorations. outside is gray, and this hides what is inside. worth a detour for a visit.

You have to remind yourself that this cathedral was not finished very long ago, because it looks like something that could be hundreds of years old. Beautiful mosaic ceilings.

Beautiful historic church. Incredible mosaics and stunning architecture! Reminds me of the beautiful churches in Europe. A must see if you are in St. Louis.

Location next to the Gateway Arch made it possible to attend the daily noon Mass. Only downside was that the museum was not open.

This is a marvelous place to visit. The mosaic work is amazing. It is nice to go by yourself or take others with you. I am not Catholic, but had a wonderful visit to Cathedral Basilica.

There are a couple of free parking lots behind the Cathedral. You just need to drive around the block to get behind it. No metered street parking in this area of the city. Just don't go at Mass time or they will be... More
