The cool waters of Forest Lake provide the centerpiece for Thousand Hills...

The cool waters of Forest Lake provide the centerpiece for Thousand Hills State Park, whose woody shores and broad savannas recall a time when northern Missouri was far less developed. The lake offers fishing, swimming and boating. The park offers hiking, mountain biking, and abundant opportunities to see wildlife. An interpretive shelter helps visitors understand the petroglyphs left behind by the area’s inhabitants more than 1,500 years ago. The park also offers campsites and cabins for overnight stays.

Lovely Place for a Day Hike

We walked a couple miles of the Big Loop Trail. Great scenery and a fairly well kept trail. Highly recommend it!

This state park contains a large, beautiful lake. Boats are available for rent. There is good fishing. There are cabins and campgrounds and a great restaurant. There are rolling hills covered with oak trees all around. It is a short drive to the city of Kirksville.

Lots of different outdoor shelters with picnic tables and grills. The lake you drive around and can stop at two different playground areas. Early morning or evening you usually see deer and geese. Can also rent cabins

Easy access to Forest Lake within Thousand Hills State Park. Lots of wildlife, especially deer. Great hiking trails and good fishing. Boat rental is available, as are pavilions for picnics and BBQs. The restaurant overlooks the lake for a relaxing dinner. And don't forget the petroglyphs!

This is such a pretty place to take your lunch and have a picnic. Wish it were a little closer than it is. But then it would be so crowded.

We took an "end of the summer" mini-vacation and this was the perfect place for the whole family! Not a big crowd of people, the lake was nice and clean. Water was pretty warm and there were two different swimming docks on each branch. We were a little frustrated with the steering on the boat but hopefully the marina will... More

Great place to visit and plan a family reunion if you live close enough. Cabins, Camping, Restaurant, Boat Rentals, Fishing--you name it. We got a paddle boat--because we only had a little time for JBA Parent's Day. Great Quality Time! Wonderful for photos and a nice lunch with a window view of the Lake. Will definitely plan on stopping by... More

We come here once a year with family. The food and service are always great. This time I had the baked cod, what a delightful surprise. I was afraid it would be bland but it was excellent as was the salad, hot roll, and vegetable. Six of us enjoyed our meals very much. If you like potato skins, they are... More
