HUGE UPGRADES DONE IN FEBRUARY 2017: - Dual-4K Digital Projection System by RSA Cosmos - 5.1 Surround Sound System - 150 newly refurbished dome recliners - Space Portal connection to Science City Combining interactive astronomy education with spectacular public shows and night sky viewing opportunities, the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium continues to be one of Kansas City's greatest connections to the night sky. Built as part of Union Station's renovations in the late 1990s, the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium's 60-foot dome and recently upgraded state-of-the-art 4K projection system makes it one of the largest and highest resolution planetariums in the Midwest. In addition to daily public shows, Union Station offers a number of opportunities in the planetarium for groups to take advantage of including field trips, Girl and Boy Scout badge workshops, summer camps, and other educational opportunities, as well as business meetings or general facility rental options.

I have visited planetariums and never found one as entertaining and interesting as this one. The show was packed and yet you could hear a pin drop because everyone (of which half were students) was engaged and learning. I learned new facts about the items...More

We saw a Sesame Street show with them going to the moon. Our kids seemed to enjoy it and the chairs were comfortable for the length of show it was. The theater provided large bean bags in the front so kids can completely lay flat...More

I'm a planetarium buff, but this was my first time here. The new projection system is first class. We saw two shows, one high-production program about dark matter with amazing special effects and lots of cool info. The 2nd was the local summer skies over...More

I know the bean bags are probably for the little kiddo's, but my fiancé and I loved them! The only improvement I can recommend is to get more of them because they are perfect for looking up at the stars. This place is very relaxing...More

We've seen multiple of the star tours in the Planetarium. They are always a live presenter showing the stars above Kansas City's night sky and they change every season. I came to a show here before the new projector system was installed, and it is...More
