Combining interactive astronomy education with spectacular public shows and night sky viewing opportunities, the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium continues to be one of Kansas City's greatest connections to the night sky.

Built as part of Union Station's renovations in the late 1990s, the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium's 60-foot dome makes it one of the largest planetariums in the midwest. Union Station offers a number of opportunities in the planetarium for groups to take advantage of including field trips, Girl and Boy Scout badge workshops, summer camps, and other educational opportunities, as well as business meetings or general facility rental options.

We've had the opportunity to now see two shows at the planetarium and our kids really enjoyed both. Last winter we saw "Let It Snow" and will most likely return to see it again this holiday season. Last week we saw "Stargaze Kansas City" and our 7 year old son especially especially enjoyed himself. There are currently four other shows... More

This is a great educational show. Inside with comfortable chairs. Only thing I didn't like is that you have to buy tickets in separate ticket office, so plan ahead or you'll miss your show time.

We did the Stars over KC show and it was SO COOL! There are giant pillows/bean bags to lay on so you can look directly up at the ceiling (you need to be first in line for these though). I get motion sick really easily, but closing my eyes just for a second did the trick.

I should have researched this more and perhaps wouldn't have been disappointed. We went to Union Station for the express purpose of going to Science City. Once we arrived we decided to visit the planetarium. The presentation we picked was about the moon and it wasn't at all what we expected. Instead of having anything to do about space, the... More

This was very interesting and well put together. There are reclining chairs and a couple big flat couches to watch the movies. There was a lot of information presented in an easy to understand way.

My son (14), daughter (11) and I really enjoyed this informative and lightly humorous planetarium show. The live guide, Patrick Hess, did a superb job of interacting with the audience and answering questions. I appreciate that show was recently updated to reflect the current night sky. We also found the staff taking tickets to be very friendly and the attraction... More

I decided to go here with a few friends for my 26th birthday. It was a rainy day and our other plans were cancelled due to the weather. They had a night sky show claiming to show you wonders of the galaxy and the universe not visible normally. In all reality, they mostly showed the regular night sky that you... More

They are getting better about getting new shows introduced for the rotation (still need to offer more on the weekends). However, when shows are to start at 10:30, it shouldn't start at 10:45. Very irritating. Your best bet is to become a Union Station member and get in free. After a 2-3 visits, your membership is more than paid for.
