Isla Mucura
Apr 2019
This year we toured a number of the island in the archipelago only accessible by boat which we consider expensive but there is no alternative and although all were wonderful we have earmarked a return to Mucura. We traveled from Tolu to the island and returned to Cartagena but having traveled this area many times we have experienced the sea getting choppy every afternoon (in april) so waterproofs and some goggles is a good idea
If you want a truly get away Robinson Crusoe island this is it.
The accommodation caters for all tastes but book before you go. This is a very popular island with very limited accommodation and better not to chance it. There is a 5 * Decameron hotel one end and Hostel Mucura at the other. The food served in the hostel is excellent but we did venture into the very very small local village where food cooked before you in the traditional manner was both excellent and cheap. Fresh from the sea
Be aware this island has no street lights !!! and in fact no streets just paths so TAKE A GOOD TORCH.
If you want a lazy beach/ bar/beer, sea and sand holiday this is it. There are activities here like snorkeling, kayaking, volly ball etc
A. very unspoiled and quiet island..... perhaps see you there

Un-spoiled Paradise.
Apr 2017 • Family
Took a day trip here from nearby Punta Seca with my girlfriend and my best friend and his family. Our hired boat picked us up at 8:30am and returned us to our beach cottage by 2pm. The sea gets choppy around that time, and you should plan your day accordingly. Our tour-guide Marcel (ask the locals for him at Rincón del Mar) took us to eat lunch on Múcura after visiting Santa Cruz del Islote, the world's most densely populated island. We took pictures with a sea-turtle, swam with nurse-sharks in the tiny little acuarium, and bought beer and souvenirs from the locals. Better-than-basic Spanish is needed to travel the region, and most places are cash-only.

Water is so clean

Water is so clean that you can see your feet while walking in the water. You can go snorkeling and enjoy the sea life. Do not forget to try coco loco.

Cleanest water
Oct 2014 • Friends
The beaches can be really awesome... The water is clean and fish come to the shore sometimes. Be careful of the areas where you have some stones. The beach is really clean and the local people is really kind. The food is really tasty!

Fabulous Eco Resort - 2hrs by boat from Cartagena
Apr 2015
Fabulous resort, real get away - turquoise waters with fish swimming around you. Try the snorkeling - the guide is truly an aquaman. Food was good and plentiful, accommodation was fine - not luxurious - but you don't need it here. Very clean. The staff were awesome ... very friendly and attentive. If you're looking to escape, this is the place - even the wifi network is called 'Disconnect from the World'!

Avoid buing trip in agency Club Nautico Maradentro!
Apr 2015 • Couples
If you've been in Mexico or Caraibian islands, this archipelag will dissapoint You. Isla Mucura has only one, tiny stretch of sand full of expensive dining shacks. The water has beautiful color but snoorkling is really poor ( dead coral, not many fishes). We spent there 3 hours and it bas enough time to swim but don't expect too much. Be careful choosing agency for this trip! Avoid Club Nautico Maradentro in Tolu. They sold us a trip to other island (Tintipan) recommending it's much better than Mucura but packed us to the boat going to Mucura! We found out from the captain of the boat after we got to the place. He couldn't change the route for us and adviced us only to make a complain after we come back. Owner of the agency ( on Avenida la Playa no. 11-36, in front of the place where the boats are leaving) wasn't there of course. He closed the agency and escaped 20 minutes before the boats were coming back. Better stay away of this place

Amazing island
Apr 2015 • Couples
We just got back from the island and 3 nights in Tolu. The island is beautiful and would recommend spending a night there because with the tour you only get 3 hours roughly to be there. A couple we went with showed up with no reservation and found something for around 170,000 pesos a night for 2 of them all meals included. We just wanted to go to Isla mucura but couldn't find a way just to see the island we had to go to some nature reserve before which was like a mini zoo.

On the island beware of people trying to rip you off, when we were about to leave a lady made us pay to sit at a table? We were not told this before but oh well. Bring cash with you to buy drinks and extra food, we had a nice lobster lunch for 25,000 pesos each.
The boat ride back was hell, the sea was really rough and the boat was catching air with water pouring into the boat. Just make sure your valuables are in something water proof.

Overall I really enjoyed the island however would recommend just staying in Cartagena and going to a island near there because The city Tolu is nothing special and quite loud.
