We are locals that take all our visitors to this place. Totally intact - small but a lot to see. So close to Hobart for those who cannot get to Port Arthur. Gives you a real sense of what prisoners went thru.

Richmond Jail is easily accessible with plenty of parking nearby. A small fee gives you access to the well maintained buildings which was built from 1825 onwards and is the oldest intact jail in Australia. There is plenty to see and read about and it...More

Self guided tour of the old gaol which is still preserved from convict days. Really interesting to explore and read all about what happened. Very cost effective too

Entering into the stark compound and rustic prison buildings gives visitors a true understanding of prison conditions from 1835.

9 bucks each for us pensioners was a gift,we spent over an hour taking 'photos and reading the history of the jail and its previous incumbents.

We very much enjoyed reading the stories and experiencing a taste of what the convicts endured. Very informative and well run! Great job to the community for seeing the value in this experience!

Level ground for all ages. Lots to learn. Still original - you can see where prisoners had drawn on walls / floors etc. Their life was horrifying as was the conditions, reasons for imprisonment, punishments as examples. Make a person very glad to be living...More
