This museum in the Grenfell home gives the visitor a comprehensive insight into the life of the doctor who brought ever-increasing health care to this area of Newfoundland and Labrador. Particularly touching is the brass memorial on the veranda to his beloved sled dogs that he had to kill for warmth when stranded on an ice floe.

Second visit here in two years. I stumbled on museum by chance and fell in love with it. The museum offers insight into the wonderful work of Dr Grenfell.

We found it very informative to see how Dr. Grenfell lived in St. Anthony. The rooms were interesting and you had a sense of how living up on the hill gave Grenfell and his family a marvellous view out over the city. Considering all his hard work and contributions to the betterment of lives led by the locals in Newfoundland... More

The introductory film gives an interesting portrait of Dr. Grenfell and his mission. The museum has many displays showing the work of Dr. Grenfell, his wife and his colleagues. It is an interesting part of Canadian history that I new nothing about until visiting this museum.

The exterior is gorgeous with perennial and annual mixed gardens at the entrance. It is very accessible and the washrooms are handy by. The gift shop downstairs is full of quality local handicrafts in all price ranges. All in all a very good spot to visit and have a bit of tea. Great view from the Tea Room.

This interpretive centre gives excellent insights into the development of healthcare/public health in the province. Many of the photos and recordings are extremely touching, and the whole experience is quite inspirational. The attached gift shop has some fabulous carvings for sale, as well as quality prints and hooked hangings.

We started here by watching a video about Dr Grenfell. He was by all accounts a very giving man who went above and beyond for the people of Labrador. After the video we toured the museum. There were a lot of photos and some interesting medical equipment from the early 1900's. It was interesting to learn about transportation in the... More

I never expected to enjoy this museum so much. I'm typically not a museum visitor as I prefer to be out on a hiking trail exploring. The opening video was touching and from that moment I was hooked on learning more about Dr. Grenfell and his mission. I read every exhibit note. The exhibit was well thought out and displayed.... How large a role can a charity play in providing health care and education? Can it replace government in this function if it refuses to or is unable to provide these services? Or can charity only play a minor role? The Grenfell properties provide a possible answer. The interpretation center documents the life of Wilfred Thomas Grenfell and the organizations... More
