Hiking

Beautiful to explore. Great way to get exercise and let the kids burn off some energy. We've been going back every year to enjoy the solitude of nature and pretty landscape.

I come here at least twice a month. It is beautiful in every season. You get everything, prairie, gardens, forest, pine, river, glade, Lake ect. Only thing missing is a great bluff view (theirs is hidden by trees usually) My children love it. There is a sod house, teepee structure, historical house and children's area. So many trails to chose... More

One of my favorite places to hike in the summer and winter, watch migrating birds in the spring and fall. There are so many unique educational programs that are offered throughout the year. It truly is an amzing place.

Perhaps it was the time of year that I visited (August), but I was pretty disappointed. There is nothing here that you cannot find for free in many of MO's beautiful parks. Note that they close some of the major roads on Fridays making it difficult to get to many areas of the park without a very long hike. IMO,... More

So many trails to enjoy out here and things to photograph but the bees were out in full force when I was there. So if your allergic I'd watch out. You could easily spend a whole day here walking around everywhere...take your time and enjoy the peace and quiet in this reserve.

We visited on Mother's Day and were sad to find out that the back areas of the park aren't open on the weekend. We still had a good time though, and hiked the Wolf Run Trail, which is mostly flat.

My favorite event of the year happens at the Shaw Nature Reserve, which is amazing to visit anytime. I spent the afternoon at the Shaw Plant Sale, where numerous vendors offer native plants to the public at very reasonable prices. There are also assorted local food and craft vendors, too. The field they host the event in is perfect, and... More

This is a beautiful place that you can spend hours exploring. The volunteer at the visitors Center was helpful in getting us on the correct trails for the number of miles we wanted to do. Would go back more often if it was closer.

Great way to spend a portion of day enjoying nature and getting in some exercise. The trails are nice to walk, the Bascom house was a nice break with complimentary beverages the day we walked thru and my kids loved the children's area. It was a great way for them to burn off some energy and explore - especially the... More
