Daughter loved the victorian house, doesnt require many decorations. But they need to be bright as a lot of dark areas-low lighting. Venue has 50 chairs - 13 card tables - 3 8ft tables, dining room table to use. RATES on-line are way out of date, shows Wedding-$500 now 750 (w/taxes 811.50) deposit now $500. We didn't go in since it's only open for tours on Wednesdays. I'll share this: don't hurry through Carthage. Drive Central Ave from the east, turning south at Garrison for a block and back to the right on Oak St.....this is the old Route 66. You'll see the old Boots Motor Lodge right there on the corner as you turn... More

The Historic Phelps House is a great representation of the beauty in the historic homes of Carthage. Beautiful home that is rich in history.

Was a wonderful venue for after-wedding dance and dinner-buffet. Rental fees are amazingly low. Every room is full of fantastic wood and carvings, Massive fireplaces, garden room, elegant staircase for photos, and beautiful crystal and antique party settings, as with every corner of this amazing home - all included for reasonable rental fee.

This is a very unique house to visit. You can rent it out for functions as well. Very delightful. One of the charming places of Carthage.

I have used the Phelps for four special events. Each time I was applauded as the best hostess ever. The house is beautiful and entertainment friendly. I have given three wedding/baby showers and one wedding reception with no problems at all. The kitchen and serving dishes make the events so special.

If you like old style mansion toe houses you will love this. Our tour group visited this. Many, many antiques, and lots of old art work. You can just imagine the style of living in the early days living in this beautiful house. From the Grand entry way, to the old fireplaces, and beautiful wood work. Houses today just don't... More

I am in the bank travel business. I take senior citizens on bus trips. On August 19th I took them to Carthage, MO. One of our stops was the Historic Phelps House where my group had such as well as a tour. The lunch was delicious - a chicken dressing casserole, a fruit lettuce salad, homemade rolls and pineapple cake... More

We would have looked to visit but the house is only open on Wednesdays and the site is really set up to try and get large group bookings.
