This is a unique out-of-the-way adventure that you need to take if you are anywhere close to Carthage, MO and want to see what an old homestead and town looked like in the early 1900s. It is well worth the short trip north of town.

As we were driving Route 66, were advised not to miss Red Oak. Was a little tricky to find, even with GPS, but enjoyed driving through and seeing all the interesting buildings in re-created village. Funky objects, as well, such as "day care" sign on...More

Lowell Davis put together a nice collection of old buildings and artifacts from days gone by. Worth a drive out for a few photos.

Getting to Walk around Red oak is a fun adventure for all ages. We got to view the historic buildings and Chat with Lowell Davis about the history behind the property. Very interesting spot.

This is definitely a hard place to describe. It is quirky, charming, artsy, historic and just plain fun to visit. When you first arrive you aren't quite sure of things but it only takes a few minutes to figure out that people live in this...More

Wonderful place to visit. Charming, with a lot of Lowell Davis' unique sense of humor showing in his sculptures. Meeting the artist was a high point of our trip.

Are there people living here? Is it safe to leave the car? Lights were on, dogs were running around, new cars parked in the back. Didn't see a soul. Fun to see but I would advise to drive to see the one near Lee's Summit...More

Having visited this place upon the recommendation of a co-worker over 20 years ago, we were delighted to find that, not only did the place still exist, it has seemingly thrived! Many more rescued buildings and more artwork. It is not an actual "town" -...More

No food, no gift shop, and no real hours.... it is much like a small town, you just show up. However if you show up after dark, you may be challenged.... 8:00am to 6:00pm would be my suggestion. Respect those that actually... More

There's no entrance fee. It's free for everyone to enjoy. They have a Donations box if you want to throw in a few dollars though. But there's no pressure to do so.
