In the early 1900s, the area that’s now Castlewood State Park was a popular retreat for partying St. Louisans. The dance clubs are gone, but the winding Meramec River and the lush valley that surrounds it remain. The park has hiking and mountain biking trails that range from those great for first-time riders to ones that even the most experienced will return to time after time. The park is considered one of the best mountain biking locations in the St. Louis area. Good fishing, broad meadows filled with wildlife, and plenty of recreational facilities make the park a favorite for people who want an adventure or just to get away.

This is a nice park positioned along the scenic Meramec River. There are places for the kids to play, shelters for group events, and many walking trails. Nestled in an urban area this park is a nice escape back to nature.

The police do a good job of watching this area. With that said, they need too. Too much texting and driving thru here. I don't ride my bikes thru here any more because of the speedy teen age traffic

No swilling but some nature trails and nice outdoor experience. Plenty of parking and a place to pick up intimation on the park. Picnicking tables and shady places to rest.

You can get several types of hikes in depending on the direction you go. clockwise around the park and you'll climb up all the stairs. Go the opposite way and you get a great big hill right away. Also great for mountain biking

Beautiful park, I just needed a little hike, I was breaking in a new pair of hiking boots. The trail was perfect with great scenic views. I've been here before biking and hiking and I will be back.

My boyfriend and I hiked around the park for 1-2 hours, which was plenty of time to experience everything we wanted to see. The view was beautiful and the trails are well-kept. My only piece of advice is to do a little research on trails...More

The floods mostly come in Spring. Mostly. October should be relatively safe. I don't recall the park flooding at any time during Autumn, at least not during recent history.
