I and 2 friends did the Britton Peak - Lutsen section camping for 2 nights, mid October - we got sweet weather and were challenged climbing the trail switchbacks up the southern side of Moose and Mystery Mountains. It would be easy to do day hike in from the Lutsen side - I highly recommend the trail for the outdoor... More

One of America's great hikes. Go from Duluth to Canada, or just a day section. We hiked Carleton Peak for great vistas of Lake Superior and fall color.

I've been going to the North Shore for over 20 years and was not really familiar with the SHT until recently. I knew there were allot of parks and trails and just places to disappear in the region, but assumed that the SHT was one of the many trails I had happened upon in my many trips. I was very... More

By now, we have ventured on a good portion of the Superior Hiking Trail and its spurs. Depending on when you get on the trail, it can be as comfortable as a paved bike trail or as challenging as a fairly steep hike to the top. Either way the trail will not disappoint. Word of caution, plan your hike and... More

No reservations needed. Just grab your stuff and go, experience the freedom of the trail. You get a wide variety of experience within each section, from cliff overlooks to pine forests to marshy boardwalks. This is my escape from the city, and I love it every time - have been coming up with friends, family and boyfriend for years. Day... More

Ran the superior 100 on the SHT from gooseberry to lutsen . Assume trail, well marked and groomed. Numerous campgrounds along the way. Easy access every 6-10 miles.

I wanted to complete this hike after hiking out the spur and missing the loop back to the ski hill in May. Some great views once you ride the gondola. to the top. There was some tree falls and steep inclines along the way. It took us over 2 hours to complete the loop. I would not wear your best... More

Great maintained trail. Primitive camping available. First come first serve camp sites. We mix in state park camping along the way for amenities.

Rugged trails, steep inclines, spectacular views and all well worth the effort. Plan for plenty of time and don't forget water and snacks. Depending on the section of trail, you can enjoy a leisurely walk or a rigorous hike. You can plan an hour or several days or anything in between. Research the area before starting out.

We hiked a 5-mile section of the Superior Hiking Trail, and loved taking pictures and breaks along the way. We didn't realize it would take us four hours to do the hike, but looking back later we're so happy for the experience and fun of being together and enjoying time together for our 25th wedding anniversary :)
