Description:

The Northfield Historical Society cares for the historic First National...

The Northfield Historical Society cares for the historic First National Bank building that the James-Younger Gang attempted to rob on September 7, 1876. The museum tells the story of the brave citizens who fought Jesse James and the other robbers leading to the end of the James-Younger Gang. During the weekend after Labor Day each year, a live reenactment of the bank robbery takes place on the street. Additional gallery space in the museum explores a variety of local history topics that make Northfield a unique mid-western town.

We stopped in during our walk through Northfield. Museum focused mostly on Jesse James and the first National Bank robbery. Admission is $5 for adults and there is a gift shop too. The museum has a 10 minute film on Jesse James that was interesting.

I've wanted to visit this event several years and finally went this one. Im a history person so this definitely appealed to me. I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed. The Historical Society has a lot of interesting things on display regarding the attempted bank robbery and other items about the town/area that are also interesting. The reenactments are also... I LOVED this museum! We got there just as a tour was starting and the tour guide was informative and engaged and retold the story as if he were there. There were maps and photos to orient you to the historic tale of the attempted bank robbery. The bank stands as it did back in the 1800's and you get... More

We saw this on American West documentary and just had to see it for ourselves. It was an OK display but nothing great.

I was glad that we toured the bank during Jesse James Days. Since we did it before the bank robbery reenactment, we knew what it looked like inside...which is essentially the same as it was on the day the actual attempted robbery occurred. You can even see the bank register as it appeared on the date of the robbery. Be... More

Museum focuses on James and Younger gang robbery of Bank in Northfield. Bank is setup as it was in 1876. There are other displays as well including historical photos.

Certainly worth the $5 admission to learn a bit about the Franker/Younger raid on Northfield. The young lady who walked us through the bank was a high school student who volunteers at the museum, She did a better job as a storyteller relating the events than many adults I have encountered at other places. Although there are a couple of... More

Enjoyed the 2 gentlemen's account of the Jesse James bank robbery. Saw the bank as it was on that infamous day, even stood on the original hardwood floors. I love history so it was fascinating to learn about this terrible group of bank robbers. Glad I did it!
