The Hennepin History Museum is located in the Fair Oaks Historic District in the Whittier neighborhood just south of downtown Minneapolis near the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. While it's located in the historic Christian Mansion, it is not a fuddy duddy dusty museum. There are several galleries with unique and interesting exhibits, many topics which provide historical takes on contemporary... More

This is a small museum in a house built in 1920. Good to visit if you're in the area and like history. They had displays on those big tire bicycles from the 1880's, and on the local "Buzza" greeting card company that went defunct in 1942.

The Hennepin History Museum Is a museum surprise. It connects us with our favorite activities and interests in unusual ways- last week a pet exhibit with some live pets present - and beginning this week a real historical objects exhibit of a favorite mode of transportation and pleasure - -Biking!

This museum works hard to provide a creative and innovative array of changing exhibits and events for viewers. Although you can visit to admire the architecture and interiors as well as the history of this little mansion, this is no "house" museum. It features the large and diverse collections of the Hennepin County Historical Society. Situated half a block from... More

If you are a history and architecture lover, then you will love this museum. If you are the sort that prefers traditional art museums, give this one a pass. I personally love this museum because it is a beautiful space, it is located right across from the Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA) and a very nice park, and the exhibits... More

I read a glowing newspaper review and visited the Museum. Despite being very near the Minneapolis Institute of Art and Children's Theater, I was totally unaware of this gem. I found it to be a remarkable place: a wonderful historical mansion, engaging exhibits, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Hennepin County has a remarkable history, this is a wonderful place to learn... More

I took my students here a couple of times when I was teaching and they loved it. They were especially thrilled to be able to wear costumes and learn about the styles of the past. We had just finished studying Pioneers with Laura Ingalls Wilder and it was a great way to make a connection. A good place to take... More

This little history museum sits quietly across the park from the Minneapolis Museum of Art at 2303 Third Avenue South, and we only "found" it because we had parked our car nearby. The building is a lovely piece of architecture completed in 1919. The rooms contain period furniture, dolls, toys, and decorative arts. The museum is primarily a Historical Society... More
