During the annual Art a Whirl -- this area vies with the Minnesota State Fair, but on a weekend afternoon the studios are just well attended, and you will have more time to visit with gallery owners, and artists. Worth a visit -- lots to see!

Just allow 5 hours for this visit, and you might—just might—feel satisfied that you've covered most of the ground. You have 4 very long floors of artists, all doing creative things and many doing cutting edge work. The hustle and bustle is energizing, and the work is sometimes breathtaking. Take a break along the way for coffee, or drive down... More

Located in NE Minneapolis off of Central Ave. This building has the mass majority of artists featured during artist week "Northeast Tours of artists" Fun to go through and see all the different artwork and people.

Every city and town and small town trying to drum up some tourist trade has an art crawl, art day, art hike, art-o-whirl, art attack where you freely wander around galleries and sometimes huge old honking warehouses (like Northrup King) that are thick with studios of artists of every ilk and, depending on the artists' viability, cookies, cheese & crackers,... There were a wide range of styles and abilities from inexperienced to polished. If we didn't like one room we'd move on and find one we did. The artist with kinetic sculptures was one of our favorites.

So many talented artists are packed in this space it is almost naughty. There is every genre and they have a first Thursday event that is spectacular. It is a part of town that is the called an artists district but it is also the multinational food district so there is TONS of really great food nearby. (This area could... More

One of the main venues for artist studios in Minneapolis' art district. It's especially fun during art-a-whirl in the Fall of the year. Many galleries are in this bu Lying as well as many, many more in the surrounding blocks.

The first Thursday of the month, many (but not all) galleries/studios are open to the public. The art runs the gamut from classical realistic painting to jewelry, felted wool, woven rugs and even a mid-century modern furniture venue. The best idea is to elevate to the top floor of the building and prowl each floor for treasures. Most studios have... More

Cheap rent draws a full spectrum of people trying to get by while creating whatever their heart desires. Some serious artists in there are worth collecting; all are worthy of respect for their flat-out decision to give it a go.

Nice variety of shops/studios most with the artists present. Good parking, easy to get to right off Central Ave. Personalized feel getting to meet the local artists in their own studios.
