English Heritage site, Walmer Castle and Gardens is on an historic stretch of coast. Lovely sea views from the ramparts (we could see France!). Two places to eat on site, although we didn't partake. Audio guided tour available which adds a little more to the tour than the guide book. Little gift shop. Some narrow tread stairs to the ramparts... More

After a disappointing visit to Deal, didn't know what to expect from Walmer. It was great! EH had organised a treasure hunt for children to take them around the impressive gardens and costumed storytellers to entertain children. House and gardens were incredible, view over the sea is fantastic. I'd recommend!

This is how visitor attractions should be! No pressure to do anything in any particular order - but the option to do so if you wish. I'm sorry for the reviewer who felt 'ushered' - all I can say is that someone must be listening to feedback. Headphones provide informative guide, but there are well-informed and enthusiastic staff to talk... More

As members of English Heritage this location and car parking facility is free. Once inside there is a lot of history to see and it is very interesting although I am not sure that it would interest children. The gardens were nice to walk through and admire.

What an amazing castle! We visited on an event weekend so I believe things were being done slightly differently than usual. We went into the gardens via a side gate which meant that we had the beautiful view of the kitchen garden as we entered. There was a fantastic ambiance all around the grounds (which did not disappoint) and the... More

Looked lovely from outside, unfortunately we were ushered in via the garden first so didn't manage to walk through the main entrance to feel that first impact, when you visit somewhere for the very first time. The gardens are beautiful, unfortunately as the weather wasn't very warm we didn't wander far from the house, so I can't comment further. The... More

This place is beautiful for a sunny day out! Plenty of space to walk and appreciate nature and when you are tired you can have a cuppa of tea sitting on the castle " balcony" looking at the sea!

Visited after Deal Castle with high expectations following TA reviews, and which told us to be able to expect an audio guide. As EH members we were let in via a side gate, but then we had to hunt the main entrance to be able ask for the said audio guide. But the response was 'there is no audio guide... More

Visited with friends today. The castle looks good and parts of it have great sea views. To be honest though I found the castle interior a little boring, what saves this place as a good place to visit are the gardens. There's a pretty woodland walk and the gardens themselves have some lovely trees and flowers and they're made for... More

Went to Walmer castle today as lived in Kent for ages and never been. It's not as big as Leeds or Dover but has a charm all its own. The tea rooms are definitely worth a visit on arrival and wasn't expensive. The gardens are simply magnificent and a credit to whoever the gardeners are. We enjoy our visit and... More
