We went to this park to do some walking/hiking. First thing I noticed was the beautiful views of the river valley. Stunning! we started on an easy hike then decided to do the harder one. It was long and alot of stairs/rocks to climb back up. It was challenging but it felt so good to accomplish. There is also just... More

We hiked about 2 miles, but it was very challenging. The signs warn you that it is a difficult hike and they are not kidding. We enjoyed it immensely for getting the heart rate up. The "rock with a hole" is worth the challenge to see. For those less able, there is a paved walking path as well, but you... More

I'm not well versed in State park camping, but my friends are! We brought my friends' 5th wheel (a very large camper in my limited experience). We got a drive through site, which pleased my hosts very much. The public toilets and showers were well lit, had plenty of hot water and were very clean. And the best part was... More

I brought the kids to this park for a couple nights' stay in the hottest part of August. We stayed at cart-in Site 3 or 4 or something. We're hammockers, so avoid these sites if you are--there's not enough trees for hammocks. Luckily we had a tent, too, and had a great stay. The staff gave us a GPS for... More

We camped for a night here. The park is a smaller park which we like. However the sites were not as private as most of the state parks. It's also very tight to get some of the larger campers in there. Overall a nice park. Great nature programs!

We actually came down "south" to take grandkids hang gliding at Eagle Hang Gliding in Lake City. We love state parks and decided to try Frontenac. It's a nice quiet little park with great hiking trails and awesome views of the Mississippi. We have totally enjoyed our 3 day stay.

It is absolutely beautiful park with majestic views and great campsites. The park is easily accessible and well maintained. Stop by the Rangers office and get some water or drinks if needed and firewood as well!! There is so much shade there that the hot weather today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Easy roads and unbelievable... More

In the day I spent at Frontenac State Park I discovered many excellent trails and an ability to spread out the visitors so one doesn't fell they are in a crowd. Ancient burial mounds hide in the deep woods, old farm sites stand silent testament to change, and the birds, birds, birds! The hardwoods, open prairie, bluff lands all contribute... More

This park has beautiful views, plenty of places to picnic, and good hiking trails. We parked near the picnic shelter at the top of the bluff and trekked north/northwest on the Lower Bluff Trail first. The trail itself was of intermediate difficulty, with more challenging parts being climbing down from the top of the bluff to get to the trail,... More

We were in Red Wing on a recent visit and had some time to kill before a concert. I was seeking a location for some photography and Frontenac State Park is just a short drive south of Red Wing. The park includes bluffs for scenic vistas and deep woods hiking trails. Beautiful campground here and friendly park employees. I was... More
