My husband and I have visited several times. This time we took our guest from Texas and our 3 grandkids. All found Dorothy's story extremely fascinating. It was fun to imagine what her really interesting life was like. There is a guide if you want it and a video. Our Texas guest went home and told them all about it--she... More

My husband ate in this cabin many years ago. So much history. Beautiful log cabin. Got some literature on it.

Definitely research the Root Beer Lady before you come to the Museum. Great place to stop while you are in Ely.

This museum was so interesting esp since we had read her books and enjoyed them immensely. We know people who had visited with her throughout her life and what a life it was! So great for all ages.

Don't miss the Museum and cabin if you want to learn about a woman who made other peoples lives better. And the root beer is great too.

Offers a glimpse into the life of a local legend that lived out in the woods alone. She is famous for her lifestyle - choosing to stay in a cabin on an island miles from civilization. There are very nicely done displays, information telling her story, a gift shop and snacks for sale. Very good family attraction.

Dorothy was a legend in the BWCA. Anyone who loves the Northland should stop by and find out more about how she lived her life. The guided tour is a must... you'll learn much more than a walk through.

I love the story of Dorothy Molter that is so perfectly told with the reconstruction of her cabins at the museum. I loved seeing her Christmas decorations, signs, and her old snowmobiles.

The Dorothy Molter Museum is exactly what you would expect of a small town museum dedicated to a woman who anyone outside of the area has never heard of. That being said, the story of this woman’s life is compelling. She lived most of her life in the middle of the woods by herself. Despite nature and the Federal Government... More
