We did almost 1/3 of the drive and it was spec-ta-cu-lar. There are nice hidden spots along the way such as the French River, a lovely and secluded place to take a dip in a wild forest river. Great diners and cafes along the way...More

This is simply a gorgeous place to visit. Driving through the 163 miles isn’t that easy without rolling your eyes on the big sides of the highway. One should research well ahead and pick places accordingly. There are too many things to see, if you...More

Lots to do along this road. Tons of water falls, hiking trails and places to eat that have been around for 50+ years.

Great drive, went as far as Two Harbors. Next trip to Duluth we'll get up to Split Rock Lighthouse. Would be a nice drive in the fall.

From Duluth we went to Two Harbors one day, and another day we drove as far as Temperance River State Park. There are small towns and state parks to explore. Even on a weekend the road wasn't too crowded. Highly recommended.

We took the 1.5 hour train ride. We purchased first class tickets. The car we sat in was air conditioned, so we were very comfortable on a warm day. We sat in the dome car so we could see all around. First class passengers were...More

Don't go during peak tourist season like we did. 25 years ago it didn't matter, you could find a motel and do the trails and restaurants with ease. Now it's chock full of tourists so...plan ahead. Even a tiny little cabin with no shower or...More

Miles of shoreline; stops all along! It’s a great weekend getaway! Visit Two Harbors, Split Rock, Grand Marais and Grand Portage before heading south! ❤️

I agree with those that suggest three or four days. You mentioned checking out the Gunflint Trail... An excellent choice, but there is basically only one (paved) way in and the same way out. Driving up the Gunflint from... More

And Betty’s Pies! Must stop and enjoy on 61 just outside of two Harbors to your left. Almost always a wait but worth it
