The drive along the North Shore of Lake Superior is one of the most scenic drives in Minnesota - and probably in the country. The city of Duluth, population about 86,000, is the gateway to the North Shore. It is an inland port visited by...More

This is a pretty drive but the views are not spectacular as there is an interstate in the way. You did catch some views of the lake and shoreline.

We to 61 scenic route up to Two Harbors and it was beautiful! We watched a ship leave the loading docks and another one come in. We were amazed at how large the ships are!

Drove Hwy 61 from Duluth MN clear to Thunder Bay OT. Split Rock Lighthouse is a must see stop. Excellent view of Lake Superior and numerous parks and scenic pull offs. We dallied a few times and boogied on down the road at other times....More

What a beautiful route. We drove it from Duluth past Two Harbors and up to Split Rock lighthouse. The best drive we could have taken. Worth it.

Incredibly beautiful drive with it's own personality. It's filled with brown red waterfalls and little coves where rivers reach the lake. Plenty of good places to eat in small lake towns. Great place to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Well maintained state parks, beautiful scenic turnouts and viewing spots every few miles, lots of rest areas, lots of restaurants. Friendly little towns and history galore, one f the best scenic drives in the country. Put it on your list.

The North Shore of Lake Superior has a rugged, rocky shoreline and there are some nice views from the highway.

I agree with those that suggest three or four days. You mentioned checking out the Gunflint Trail... An excellent choice, but there is basically only one (paved) way in and the same way out. Driving up the Gunflint from... More

And Betty’s Pies! Must stop and enjoy on 61 just outside of two Harbors to your left. Almost always a wait but worth it
