For a small-town museum this was great

This museum has a lovely interior, with plenty of open space and natural light. The views from the rear are great too. We weren't expecting the variety of exhibits, and really... read more

It was a little out of our way coming from Biwabik but we found this museum my husband wanted to see. Much to our surprise the kids and all of us enjoyed this meseum. The staff was great. You could spend hours in this museum. I only wish they had a theater to show the film on how iron is... More

Admittedly, we were there when they opened on a Thursday, so we wouldn't expect there too be a whole lot of traffic, but there was NONE. I don't think we passed another guest in our 2 hour visit. That felt weird... My first trip there was to the Iron Range Interperative Center on a school field trip the year it... More

As my husband and I have never travelled in Minnesota, this was a very informative stop. We learned so much about the immigrants, native people, mining, etc., etc. most of the exhibits are in the museum rather than outside. Be sure to watch the 35 minute documentary in the theater, if you have time. It is very helpful.

This museum has a lovely interior, with plenty of open space and natural light. The views from the rear are great too. We weren't expecting the variety of exhibits, and really liked the section on immigrants. It helped us get both an individual perspective and a big-picture view of the role of immigration in shaping the midwest. We watched the... More

The research center has a plethora of sources for family research, is free, and has staffers ready to help find what you're looking for. Not only do they have microfilms of naturalization records, city directories, etc., but also accounts on ancestry.com and other sites, including Swedish church records and others. The only charge is for copies and printing. I plan... More

This is an interesting place to learn about the Iron Range. The displays are good, modern and designed to inform and entertain. We especially enjoyed the Conservation Corp Camp display and how they lived, worked and developed the area in Minnesota. The Iron Man Statue is huge and impressive. It appears that there are many activities throughout the year but... More

What a treasure! I'd been hear years ago, when I think it was called "Ironworld". Fantastic interactive museum and research center; well-maintained, great historic content (Minnesota, immigrant, and Iron Range history). Worth a visit.

We took the trolley ride after walking around the CCC exhibit, museum, and grounds. Everything is well taken care of, but there were not a lot of visitors on site the day we visited. Jim and Keith on the trolley were the highlight of our visit. They were very knowledgeable and personable. We enjoyed our visit, just wished more people... More
